The scenery is beautiful, easily rivaling any other mountain in the area. The hike is far less crowded than other comparable hikes in the area, making for a more enjoyable experience in my opinion. The trail follows a secluded canyon on the back of the mountain, offering solitude and often an opportunity to see wildlife. I have seen bears and a moose along the trail before.
Note that the hike is quite difficult, as it starts near the bottom, unlike most hikes in the area where roads will take you relatively high into the mountains. The trail also has many loose rocks through several sections, so if that's a concern for you this is not a good hike to do.
Also, it makes for a stunning night or sunrise hike, and there are several great spots to camp along the back once you get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have hiked to the top of this mountain several years ago. It is neat that there is a lake towards the top. When I did it by myself I could go up in 2 hours 15 minutes. One time I did it with my kids and we made it to the rigdeline, we hiked almost all day long. This hike has thick trees most yhe way up. And the trail is usually covered in snow in the month of June. For anyone who wants to see the fall colors this is also a great hike even if you can't make the summit. How to find the trail is to drive up the canyon through Mapleton just north of Spanish Fork peak. At the end of this campground is the trailhead. Hike up the canyon about 1/2 mile then the Spanish fork peak trail is the first turn off...

At this time of year (August) the lake (at the top) was dried up and so the only water source you have is at the bottom of the hike (a stream from a spring). Our problem was we ran out of water because we hiked in the middle of the day and it was hotter than we had expected!
That being said, we still made it to the top! As other reviews have said this hike is extra strenuous because you start from the bottom of the mountain unlike the other peaks in the area where you can drive up a few thousand feet to the trailhead. Lots of wildflowers and beautiful landscapes! Not many...
