Recently I purchased a gift certificate for one of the guys in the office, they were to mail it to my home. After a week I called and had to leave a message, no call, no follow up. I waited a few days and again, no response to the message, no call back. Today I drove an hour out to the Club so I could get this sorted out because once again no one was answering the phone. I couldn't locate anyone onsite so I proceeded to call the number until finally Andrew answered. He wouldn't tell me how I could meet anyone on staff inside, he would meet me in the parking lot. He was aware that they hadn't mailed out the gift cretificate and then proceeded to lie and tell me it was sent a few days ago. While standing in the parking lot I called home and had the mailbox checked, surprise no gift certificate. I explained I would like a refund, he said he couldn't help me. I asked to speak to anyone who could help me and he said there was no one. What a joke
Update: Response to the GM requesting I email him:
Matt
I saw the response to my Google review to email you, not sure why Dove Mountain does not have operable phones either way here we are using the least form of personable communication in existence.
Per Andrews direction I reported it to the Credit Card company as undelivered product / theft. So let's be clear, there is nothing I want from you, you wanted an email and you can have an email. Also let's be honest if you cared a phone call would have happened, at least you didn't ask me to text you, it's the little things in customer service.
My buddy at the office loves Dove Mountain. You would think that is his heaven, the only place in the world to play golf and the opportunity to provide him with the gift certificate in a timely fashion was long gone before I had to drive out there just to be told that it wasn't Andrew's problem and there's no one else to talk to. In the parking lot, in the afternoon as if I was bothering him, again.
Mistakes happen, I make them often and so do the people that work for me so the first few times I tried to solve this problem I had a " Solutions Based mindset. Frankly I was still trying to figure out a way to make it work the day I drove out there.
A few items really stood out about my experience with Dove Mountain. Andrew knew who I was when I kept calling from the parking lot, he was well aware the gift certificate hadn't been mailed. He couldn't even be bothered to meet me inside and told me to just wait in the parking lot. His level of indifference to the situation was just below his dismissal to me as a person who had already paid for a service. I don't know who runs the " pro-shop " from my experience, the word " pro" does not apply.
Requesting that I email you just tells me you give zero consideration to how poorly you as a General Manager run whatever department you are responsible for, you have set the tone and it clearly shows with simple tasks like mailing a gift certificate, returning calls, customer service and setting examples for employees.
When the Credit Card company "back bills" or reverses the charge, please just accept it and don't fight it. I don't have the time and clearly you don't. I never did get the Gift Certificate which tells me Andrew really was lying that day.
I sent a more coherent and formal letter to Phil Cotton at Nicklaus Companies the week after my visit, obviously it may not reach him and even if it does there's nothing that will come of it. Perhaps Dove Mountain will be known as the place in Tucson where some guy sent Phil a Fed Ex complaining about a lousy $150 gift Certificate. Maybe he will remember Andrew's name, either way in the back of someone's mind Dove Mountain will be remembered for something negative.
Clearly from the reviews and people I have asked about Golfers love you, to me your...
Read moreEdit: Played Dove Mountain for the 6th & 7th time since 2023,back to back mornings. I wish I could tell you its getting old. Its not. No pics are going to do the incredible views of Tucson and The Mountains any justice. While forgiving from the tee box, this is a challenging course from 6700 yards. Loaded with fairway bunkers, approaches are difficult to land. Summer conditions were probably better than 97% of courses in the state and green speed was close to a 9/10 stimp. Pin Placements are diabolical. Yes this is a challenging course but that's why we golf. All the staff are incredibly friendly and professional. Kudos to GM Matt Nuechterlein and his staff for running one of Southern Arizona's best golf operations.
Edit: October 27, 2024 Parents Weekend at U of A, was a glorious one made even better getting to play Dove Mountain for the 5th time in 14 months. Listen, I'm not a fortune 500 CEO but I've played some real nice Public and Private Courses in Southern Arizona, Central & South Florida, Myrtle, Metro Chicago, Cincinnati & Wisconsin, and.ive never enjoyed golf like i have at Dove Mountain. Conditions were lush and green after overseer and greens rolling fast and smooth. It's forgiving off the tee but loaded with bunkers. Shots require thought and players who are having a bad short game/putting day will be punished. The views are majestic. The air is clean. The only noise is wildlife. Shit even the drive up to Dove Mountain is an experience. Staff is very warm and accommodating and treat walk up guests like me no different than members. GM Matt Nuechterlein and staff are running a top notch operation. I'm just happy that my son is a sophomore, and i'm gonna get more chances to play this amazing course.
Edit August 21, 2024. For any passionate golfer, the Golf Club at Dove Mountain is an extraordinary experience. Challenging approaches..amazing scenery and greens that move. I came 2 inches from my first hole in one on #4 Wild Burro from 178 with the Greenkeeper looking on and played the best golf of my life on Tortalita by firing a 40 with one double. As long as my kid is at the university of arizona, I will make sure to play this at least 2-3 times a year
Edit. May 1, 2024. Member got me on for $155. This may be the finest public course in the state. 5 star conditions especially the greens. Great staff. Real shame PGA left here.
Edit: Played here Thanksgiving Day. Such an amazing course. Majestic views that rivals almost any course in Southern Arizona. Conditions were tip top. Staff is always very courteous and professional to even a single golfer like me who isn't a Member. This is 5 star golf and a better value than 5 star courses in PHX METRO. My kid is a freshman at U of A and I will play this course every chance I get. Greens are insane unfair but it's worth it.
Extraordinary design and breathtaking views. Are the greens ridiculous and unfair? Probably but it didnt bother me. Ill be back. Friendly staff and loved the...
Read moreBe weary of the quality of treatment from the pro and staff here. Do not bother trying to request the two nines you would like to play nor believe the ones they tell you you'll be playing (even if you call on the way to the course to confirm!). Me and three buddies were in the area in February of this year and decided we'd chose this course as one for the golf trip. Months ahead when booking, we made the request to play the two nines that the PGA played when they hosted the matchplay events. They confirmed this request at that time. The day we arrived in Arizona (day before the round) I also called to confirm we'd be playing those two nines, and again they noted that we would be. On the way to the course the next day, I called again to ensure that nothing had changed, to which they confirmed we were still setup to play those two nines. Upon arriving at the course, we walked into the pro shop to get setup for the round and were treated very coldly. Finally when we were acknowledged, after waiting for 10+ minutes at the till to check-in and pay, we were told that we weren't playing the two nines we requested, and instead they slotted out bus of 16-20 guys on those two nines. I have a hard time understanding how they couldn't of known this ahead of time and shared this information with myself, which would've then allowed us make other arrangements at an alternative course in the area. Clearly they have no issue lying to you to in order to get you to the course. There are a lot of better courses in the Tucson area at a similar price point. Further, there are some comparable courses in terms of quality but at a much cheaper price point! Its worth noting, the group of us are all sub 5 handicaps and play ~100 rounds a year so we play our fair...
