I took my 16 year old sister and my boyfriends 10 year old son the other day. When we arrived the owner was out front, I said, "Hi." But instead of greeting me back he instead sneered. When we got to the door 2 large Boxers greeted us, thats fine if u like animals but what if people dont? It is a business, and I had a child, what if he aggrivated the dog and it would have bit him. They night want to think about that before letting them follow people around the place the entire time. The tanks were bare, there were hardly any fish and the seahorses were gone. I asked a girl at the front desk with the above shoulder dark hair about a tour around where they let you touch weird looking starfish, seacucumbers and a few other things. They did it for my boyfriends sons class in school about a mknth and a half ago. She had a very cold and snide attitude, she kind of chuckled and made me feel foolish. She told me no, that those tours are only reserved for groups and had to be schedualed in advance. I asked her about the tray of things she allowed the children to touch last time and she refused to take at the most 10 minuets to let my sister touch a few strange creatures. She told us we could look around and ask questions, and went back to looking at the computer screen where I assume she looks at Facebook all day and replies back to reviews left, because in a reply on my review it was worded exactly as she said it and she lied and claimed she would have let her touch the things in the tray. After we looked around for 10 minuets maybe because there wasnt really anything worth looking at except empty tanks. On the way out I asked her how much a group tour was, she again gave me the same cold, snide attitude and said that it had to be a large group that we couldnt do it. I left there really disappointed. I thought it would be as fun as the school trip, but clearly they put on an act of being nice that day, I saw their true colors. I believe she needs a new job, and the owner ought to greet potential customers. I have told my friends and family, and I only live right across the highway from them. Tired of these common acting people in this area that clearly dont...
Read moreI have purchased around $2000 worth of corals from Pacific East Aquaculture in the last 6 months and I have to say I have been super impressed with everything they have sent me. My tank is simply glowing with beautiful colorful corals and clams from PEA. All very reasonably priced and hence for 2k I have gotten A LOT of corals. They ran sales starting around Thanksgiving through to the New Year that were simply too good to pass up which is why they I went a little spend crazy. My understanding is they do this every year.
The customer service is stellar as well! They have personally called me each time to make sure my order arrived in good shape. They keep an eye on the weather and will wait on shipping something if they expect the weather to be an issue and will keep you well informed in the process.
The lady on the phone I have spoken to the most is super nice and I wish I knew her name but if you call them she is probably who you will get. She is just a pleasure to talk to and has a wonderful, kind and helpful personality. If she doesn't know the answer she will get the Dr. on the phone or have him get back to you with the information you need.
I have used Liveaquaria as well(mostly for fish because PEA has a pretty limited selection but only because they only sell aquacultured fish which is very respectable but some fish I just really wanted are are not yet aquacultured). Liveaquaria doesn't even come close to touching this place when it comes to customer service, packaging and the health and quality of the corals.
To conclude, I highly recommend Pacific East Aquaculture and hope to see them stick around for us hobbyist for a long time to come. They have a couple YouTube videos worth watching to get an idea of how they run their business. They actually grow a subset of their corals in natural sunlight in a greenhouse like structure which I...
Read moreJust got a pair of biota mandarins shipped. I didnt receive a tracking number and had to call to recieve one (not a big deal but worth mentioning). The packing was soso, the fish arrived alive but the box was noatably cold and there wasn't a complete cooler just styrofoam pieced together, this seems small but we got our first bit of snow today and I could imagine a doa if it was full winter. The female fish is emaciated and hasn't moved since acclimation, I'm pretty sure she will be dead tomorrow. The male fish was on the slim side but only in the beginning stages of starvation so maybe there's hope for him. My tank is full of pods and he's eating. The only part of this transaction I'm satisfied with was the "nugget" frag I added as a low price add on. In my experience don't buy a biota mandarin from these guys.
Updated 2-2020 I wanted to buy a nice Maxima clam and was told that this was the place to go for a healthy specimen. Truth be told this is only my second experience with the company and the first one had left me a bit hesitant (they did their best to make it right but the first transaction just wasn't great). This transaction was great, I was contacted to set a delivery date, received a beautiful clam that seems open and happy from day one, and even received a follow-up phone call the next day to ensure the clam made it ok as we were experiencing some poor weather. The absolute only down side I had with this transaction is that I failed to read that the ups location they ship to is about a half hour from my house (I usually have orders held at the location 5mins from me but this wasn't offered :( ). I completely accept that I misread the location but would love if more ups locations were added in the future. Thank you for the...
