For a quick and local hike, this trail is nice. Parking can be a bit hectic, as everyone describes, but I appreciated the ability to pay online (I’m usually without service by this point and can only go in if I don’t have cash on hand). The trails are super short but continued on toward Pigeon Hill for more distance. This part of the trail was way less crowded, offered more elevation gain and decents, and was mostly covered by the canopy to keep you cool. Views of the city (early on the trails) we’re nice, and of course crowded. Saw lots of older couples and families out, that was refreshing. Encouraged a few to take it slow going up the inclines, and remember to breathe, elevation gains are no jokes to the lungs. I knocked out about 5.5 miles, and stopped to enjoyed lunch on top of a boulder (missed pitching my hammock). I wish there were more clearings to enjoy the views up top but for a local hike, it was nice. A saw a few in flip flops and would highly encourage closed toe shoes for the many rocks you tackle...
Read moreA good hiking trial.. They have a stroller /jogger friendly road as well as trails through the forest . Great views as you walk up.. we walked through the road, the big trees on either side of the road providing shade and the breeze was beautiful!! We spotted few deers.. don’t forget ur water bottle, a snack may be, an extra top and a cap. There is bus service up and down the hill for a small fee.. please check visitor center. They have Picnic benches near parking lot.. they don’t allow to use the grass field to preserve the history of the place. Restrooms are near the parking lot. I think it’s about 1.75 mile road walk up to the hill in an incline. Low crowd area. I would say it will be great to spend some time with your family together with burning your calories:D.. you can bring some healthy snacks as you will feel hungry once up and back down....
Read moreKennesaw Mountain is part of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. There is a drive/road to almost the top of it where you can park then walk short distance to the peek. On the way to the peek you pass by guns from the Civil War era. The views from the top are marvelous. You can see high rises of Atlanta mid-downtown and Buckhead. If the weather is good you can also see Stone Mountain on the other-side of Atlanta. On weekends the road to top is blocked for cars. Naturally it is open for pedestrians who can also climb the beautiful trail any day of the week. One thing to notice, the park was free till about 2 years ago. But now there is a parking fee unless you have a yearly National Parks pass or...
