I have never seen an employee berate a customer in the way the bartender did. I will start by saying that I was treated rudely by the bartender when asking what was good, just a general menu question. The place wasn’t busy but for some reason that bothered him. I never got his name but he was wearing a Washington Commanders hat. I got my food and it was good for the price! I had the French dip. It was a good portion as well! But In the middle of my meal the bartender walked over to a group seated in the restaurant and says “I don’t know what your guys deal is, but you tip more than that when you eat out.” The man responding by saying that he tips 20% everywhere he has a server but there was none here. In his defense, there really isn’t a huge reason to tip a full 20% here because you order your food and when it’s ready he tells you and you go pick it up yourself. There is nobody waiting on you. You drink canned or bottled drinks that you get out of the cooler. Anyway, I can honestly say that I have never seen an employee act so rudely to a customer. The entire restaurant went quiet and I just couldn’t understand why he had acted so harshly. I later talked to another group about what happened and they said that they have had problems with this bartender as well. (Charging them for things they didn’t order) In conclusion, on my next trip to snowshoe I will check to see if this bartender is working, if he is not I would be happy to go again. If he is working, I will save myself...
Read moreI only get to come back to Snowshoe once every year or so since I've moved away. The highlight of my trip is typically sitting at Old Spruce for hours drinking and catching up, eating good food and drinking fantastic brews. This year was honestly terrible. Got there at open and 80% of the first people through the door were adults with multiple children in tow. Usually not a problem, but I've never been anywhere alcohol is served, let alone made, that had children running circles around tables and screeching, banging stools into my chair, while the parents just sat and ate and watched. The parents seemed to enjoy their meal, while their children ruined others.
Honestly planned to sit there and spend a few hours and many more dollars, but I couldn't because of poor bar etiquette and an establishment policy that allowed misbehaved toddlers in an adult drinking space.
I won't say I won't go back, but I will for sure be more discerning when it comes to who is in the BAR next time I...

Old Spruce is the best spot outside the Village near Snowshoe for a quick meal paired with a beer or cocktail. After spending a cold, windy evening at Silver Creek, we stopped in to warm up and refuel—and it didn’t disappoint.
I ordered two appetizers: the Bavarian pretzel and BBQ nachos.
I’ve been craving a giant soft pretzel for a while, and Old Spruce delivered! Served with a deliciously creamy cheese sauce and a tangy-sweet ground mustard, it hit the spot perfectly. The BBQ nachos were decent—not exceptional, but definitely good enough to order again, especially if you’re sharing with a group.
This is a counter-service restaurant, at least during our Sunday evening visit. I gave Old Spruce a four in every category but rated it a five overall because I’d happily eat there again and recommend it to others. Plus, I love supporting independent businesses like this one!
If you’re looking to escape the Village, Old Spruce is well...
