For this to be a new hotel, I am surprised at the condition of the frayed carpet, lack of cleanliness in the room, no wall furnishings in the room, and the absence of a tub and fridge. In addition, the food at the buffet was beyond terrible. By terrible, I mean dried out food sitting too long by not getting changed out and prepared horribly.
The worst experience was the staff both in the hotel and the casino. With the exception of only a couple of people, they were not friendly and treated me as if my mere presence was an imposition. One cage cashier was actually rude to me about signing a form while I watched others purposely ignore other guests while they were busy gossiping. When the guest asked if the window was open, the cashier rolled her eyes and said "well I'm standing here aren't I?" This wasnt the only instance I observed. Unreal...
Things that really concerned me the most were the lack of an observable security staff in the hotel and especially the walkway between the hotel and casino. The walkway is way too close to the parking lot and pretty eerie late at night. Considering a police officer was killed and the murderer picked up a few miles from the property, I would suggest fixing this. Also, the side door to get into the hotel at night sometimes didn't work and when I reported this I was informed "oh, it acts up sometimes". These are serious safety issues!
The ONLY good thing I can report was the slot machines played nicely and would pay out enough to keep playing and have fun. This, however, is not enough to make me ever want to come back. As a Preferred MyChoice cardholder, I am stunned that the Pinnacle executives haven't come in here and cleaned house with these people based on the reviews I've read. This could be a nice place if they could hire people that have customer service skills and fix the security...
Read moreMy husband and I attended his 40 year high school reunion at Boomtown. Boomtown, Gretna is a smaller but nice casino and the only one on the Westbank of New Orleans, LA.The event room was upstairs and was large enough for the 300 people who attended. The bar attendants did an excellent job of keeping up with the crowd. The food served was a buffet and the reason I gave Boomtown a lower score. I probably would give even a lower one if not for the bar attendants and the room the reunion was held in. At $65.00 per person, you would expect a lavish buffet with many great choices that would include salad choices, vegetable choices, meat choices and several dessert choices. There was no salad offerings, only the traditional mixed vegetable dish of squash, corn and the like. The only meat choice was something we couldn't appropriately identify but looked to be roasted pork. It was hard to tell since there was more fat than meat. There was a fettuccine pasta and a crawfish pasta which I found somewhat tasty but definitely nothing special. The only vegetable offering was a sweet potato cow patty looking thing. I don't eat sweet potatoes. If there was a bread offering I did not find it. The dessert "bar" consisted of only a small 3 level of dobash cakes. I did taste a couple of them and they were good, but not my preference of dessert. The bar itself offered only soft drinks, beer and wine. I was not one of the people who took care of the particulars of the event, but as a person who has handled many corporate events at my former job, I know that the food and bar choices were at too high costs for what was served. Needless to say, that unless the catering department can do a much better job of suggesting and creating menus, and those menus be at the correct relative cost, I would never have a function at this casino. Very...
Read moreI like the hotel. It's not fancy at all. Outdated but its clean. The hotel staff are always nice. I'm giving less stars because they have been out or low on towels. That's consistent poor management or logistics, this is a hotel. Also got awaken by the housekeeping staff having a very loud and giddy convo at 9am. I politely asked them to quite down and they did so not a major issue but a lack of commom sense or common courtesy. EDIT: Well the lack both common sense and courtesy for 3 mornings we were awaken at 9am by the laughter and loud convo of housekeeping. The casino itself has lots of old games, that's not a plus. I play roulette, they only have 2 tables. They usually only have one open..even on the weekends and dont look to a pit boss they are actually pretty non helpful and nonchalant. Regardless of the day the tables are surrounded by locals who dont leave. They are pretty nice but they gamble like this is their livelihood. Not a very fun place. Compared to all the casinos we frequent this is by far the lowest quality. But still an easy and worthwhile stay if want to visit the city not very good if you want to gamble. There is also a new $9.99 amenity fee....there are no amenities only a fitness room (room not center) if that's the case every hotel should charge an amenity fee. Ps no one comes here for the gym. Oh yea and this place is...
