Decided to give them a try last summer and we will never use them again.
When they called to let me know the meat was ready I asked if we could pick up one half of the beef on Friday July 1st and the other half on July 5th. The second half was for our family in IN that were visiting us. They said no problem, but it had to be picked up on the 5th, seeing they have limited freezer space.
I picked up a half on the 1st and again told them we would be back on the morning of the 5th for the other half. My husband went to pick up the other half early Tuesday morning. The lady was extremely rude! Told him about their limited freezer space and kept complaining about people not picking their meat up on time.
Then she gave him the invoice for the processing for the half and wrote across the bottom….Excessive Storage Fee $200!!! He simply paid for everything and left - with the mindset that they would see us again!!!
He did ask her how we were suppose to pick it up any sooner, seeing they were closed the 2nd,3rd & 4th and we let them know on the 1st when we would be back. She said she didn’t know anything about an arrangement for additional storage time - BUT someone wrote on the top of invoice -2nd half pick up July 5th!

   Read moreBeen waiting for 4 months for our beef. When I called in May, they said 5 weeks, okay put us on the list. 7 weeks go by, no word. So I call, get a lady and she says my dad knows about that he will call you back. Okay, next day I get a call, they got busy and got behind but are caught up now and our cow will be there next week and they will call us for the cut. Okay, another month and a half or so goes by, no call. So I call back, I got that excuse that nobody took my number so they couldn't call me. Hmmm, they called me back over a month ago and nobody wrote my number down, interesting!! She said that they could have it done that Thursday or wait until Monday, I chose wait till Monday. She did admit it was their fault , but never got an apology. Got a call the Friday before about the cow. He said he couldn't remember if we ordered a half or a quarter (so apparently they didn't keep any of our information from the first call to order). Went in today and got it, still no apology for the wait. Didn't offer a discount or nothing!!! Never did get a real reason for what happened, but got two different excuses. Will probably look for a new place to get meat. By the way, this was our second cow and we got a pig back in May just before ordering...

We normally schedule for the next year when we drop off our current steers for butchering, so 10-12 months lead time on scheduling. This year we were scheduled to drop off 5 steers on a Friday. Marshall Meats called on Wednesday of steer week and said they needed to delay the drop off because they had an accident and would not be doing any slaughtering for a time. We called them a couple of weeks later and they said when they resumed slaughtering, it would be where they left off. A week later, we were told by friends that they had resumed butchering. We called and were told it would be another couple of weeks. Called back in another week and was told our dates had been canceled and we should look for alternatives.
We raise grass fed/grass finished beef so finish time is fairly important for the quality of the meat. We had customers all lined up and no meat. We had to do a mad scramble to try to find another butcher shop. Most were 2-3 months out. Luckily we found one 2-1/2 weeks out. We'll see how things come out.
