Dear Shenot Farm & Market Team, Yesterday, being new to the area, we brought our dog along for a visit to your "apple orchard". When I started to walk into the open market area, a young employee stocking shelves loudly called out that dogs were not allowed. His tone was so strong that several customers in the store turned to look. He then said service dogs were permitted, which ours is, but unfortunately I had left her service badge in our hotel room. Embarrassed, I apologized and stepped away. After reflecting, my concern is not only how the situation was handled but also the lack of clear signage. If there had been a sign posted before entering the market building, I would have checked my pocket for her badge and avoided the misunderstanding entirely. Your website states: “Yes, well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome at Shenot Farm & Market.” That wording naturally gives the impression dogs are welcome throughout, not just outdoors. Without signage clarifying restrictions, it creates confusion and puts both your staff and customers in uncomfortable situations. My simple suggestion is this: please post signs at the entrances to indoor areas stating clearly that dogs are not permitted inside (except for service animals). This small step would prevent unnecessary conflict, protect your food safety policies, and help keep customers like me from leaving with a negative impression. Unfortunately, this experience left me discouraged, and I am not sure I will return. I hope you will consider clearer communication so others do not leave feeling...
Read moreIf you go to their website and read about their apple cider, it says "We process our cider by an ultra violet method which allows for a more natural taste when compared with cider that is heat treated or pasteurized. This allows for the great taste of our apples to be fully appreciated. This UV method is approved for safe consumption by the FDA, USDA and PA Department of Agriculture. Find out why our customers and the judges at the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Cider Contest agree that our cider is the best around!
You can also find our cider at the following locations -Kuhn's Market - Ingomar, PaPenn's Pantry - Zelienople, Pa Janoski's Farm - Clinton, Pa
*We do not sell unpasturtized apple cider as per USDA and PDA regulations."
Totally contradictory. UV light treated is NOT pasteurized. They also spelled unpasteurized wrong at the bottom.
So I called and tried to get an answer and told the woman on the phone that I'm only allowed to have pasteurized cider and she tries to tell me its Uv light treated which is a form of Pasteurization (it is not). She was as clueless as the website.
They dont know their own treatment methods. They dont know what their own website says. They should absolutely not have someone answering questions about the way their products are treated. This woman was the one in charge too, not just some random person answering the phone.
Be careful who you buy from. And to shenot, I'd just completely take this portion of your website down bc it...
Read moreShenot Farm and Market has been family-owned for several generations. The family grows vegetables and fruits, and in their market, they sell their and other local business’s products.
I shopped in their market. I saw vegetables, some fruits, some meats, eggs, milks and cheeses, breads, pies and cookies, sauces, honeys, etcetera. Customers cannot do all of their grocery shopping here, but I liked that some of the foods were new to me. Prices were OK. I bought several foods. The cashier promptly and politely served me. I enjoyed the taste of all of the foods that I bought.
During certain months, this market also sells flowers, Halloween pumpkins, Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas trees, etcetera. They also hold some events such as pick-your-own apples and hayrides. In the future, I will likely return for these events.
