This truck stop is exactly what it appears to be, an old school independent truck stop.
The best thing about this place is the people. They treat their customers like family. Sometimes their staff is a little rough around the edges, but I always feel genuinely welcome here.
The restaurant is pretty fast and if you talk to the waitstaff and order one of their quicker meals, they can usually get you in and out in 30 min. Sometimes I have placed my order on the way to the restroom and the food is ready and waiting for me on my way back out.
The lot is a little rough just drive slow and there bumps aren't bad. Decent size lot and a good chance to find a late parking spot.
The inside is a little run down, but it has all the snacks and goodies we need to keep running.
The men's restroom smells like urine, but in speaking with the owner, he explained that he was getting ready to remodel the restroom. A lot of the odor was coming from the porous materials that the walls were constructed from and a problem with the plumbing that will be fixed during the remodel.
The price of the food in the restaurant was a little high, but not outrageous. It tasted exactly like a home cooked meal.
This visit I had the Pork Chop Dinner with mash, veggies, and coleslaw. Everything tasted like it was fresh and cooked correctly. The only problem I had with my meal was desert. I had a pecan pie (delicious) with ice cream on top and the ice cream had obvious freezer burn on it.
I have stopped in for breakfast, hamburgers, and a pattymelt here before and was surprised at how tasty they were. Again the sizes were smaller than I expected for the price, but the quality of the ingredients made up for the difference.
All in all I don't mind spending my money here. This is obviously a family business and these people work hard to take care of...
Read moreI see why the dying of mom-and-pop truck stops is eminent with this place. I stopped in for the night they have no showers that's not really a big deal most mom-and-pops don't. There's no hot water in the men's room, so if it's cold outside prepare for your hands to get completely Frozen. I sat down in the restaurant and the young lady who came up to me was neither polite or rude just indifferent. I ordered the Patty melt which consists of a hamburger patty the size roughly equivalent to the small McDonald's patty one slice of cheese a few grilled onions on grilled white bread. It tasted okay but it was not good. After completing my meal I sat there staring at the wall because the young lady was by herself and three tables came in. Finally I think probably the grandmother looks over at me and says are you all done or do you want some pie I said sure I'll take apple pie hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I received a lukewarm piece of cherry pie with ice cream. As a truck driver of 12 years out here eating on the roads with 25 years of restaurant experience before I became a truck driver, these small mom-and-pop restaurants break my heart. They can't compete with major truck stops food when it comes to quality, courtesy and efficiency. I'm not writing a scathing review trying to get people to not go there, rather I hope they read this and make the tough calls of fixing what's broken. It's a tough world when you're dealing with food and labor costs but when you sacrifice those..... in the end you're only hurting your bottom line by dwindling sales. Upon waking up in the morning and getting ready to jump on the road I go inside to get a cup of coffee... After climbing in my truck and tasting it I dumped it out the window drove 14 miles in the wrong direction to the TA just to get a decent cup of coffee to...
Read moreThe issue I have is with the comment by the little girl Caroline who claims to be "white, Christian, female flatbedder" Yada yada.....for a Christian your comment was nasty, ignorant, and outright racist to say the least and you should really pick up that Bible a lot more and learn what a God loving Christian WOMAN really is, you are not it, far from one actually.Your experience is not HER experience. As an educated, black, Baptist, woman VAN DRIVER. I didn't experience what she did. The ladies I encountered were nice, super helpful, and welcoming. I'm hoping it wasn't because of the ladies comment but nonetheless my experience was not hers, so I will not diminish it.It disgusts me that a "Christian " had the gall to even make a nasty remark about pork towards someone of another religion. Do better Karen! I gave three stars because the owners could have deleted that comment. It made it look as if the establishment supports this type of behavior. I sincerely hope not because my experience was not bad.
I'm a chef by trade and I don't eat out hardly, so I didn't try the restaurant at all, therefore I won't speak on that.. I will say tho, the restaurant needs a good overhaul by way of remodel. It has an old moldy smell, dainty, and feels closeted....before I walked in I could smell the restrooms, I have one in my truck so I used that instead. I also have a shower in my truck so that didn't bother me neither, but others drivers may like/need one.The place has potential and could be great once remodeled. The parking lot coming from the side road bout gave me whiplashđ𤣠it is a great big lot and so far, quiet. All in all this place is doing what I need it to do....providing me a place to...
