Pros: Lots of group sessions, wide range of facilities Cons: Abysmal hours, very expensive, not much equipment, lots of kids, some inattentive/rude staff
I've been coming to the gym here on and off for a few years due to travel, and while it's a good facility for the most part, it's recently started falling victim to the new issue most gyms are having: the teenagers/young adults of other members.
The equipment is usually in good shape, but there's not a lot to go around. That's an issue when you get teens walking around in groups of 3-5 taking their time on several pieces of equipment. These kids don't re-rack equipment properly (if at all), they never wipe down a single thing (despite wearing the pajamas they woke up in), they endanger themselves with too much weight (I can't bear to watch another toothpick of a child get pressured by his friends into trying to squat 135), and they constantly take their shoes off (gross). Despite several posted warnings, locker room photoshoots are a common occurrence. I've asked employees to intervene and enforce the rules several times, but nothing seems to change.
It's very annoying that this gym is so expensive (not to mention it's a contract plan) and the experience is ruined by kids that have some kind of deal through their high school or ride in on their parents' membership. Cardio machines are abundant and usually free with the exception of the stair machines, but the weight area and strength machines are far too crowded with kids right now. The upstairs strength area is frequently closed for classes and doesn't allow people to come in and use the extra space, which always looks to be about half of the room. Other gyms regulate the youth problem by restricting youth members to strict time slots, and I wish they would do that here with visitors who are not paying for their own memberships.
If you show up after 7pm it's usually fine. But between 1 and 7 PM on weekdays and from 11 AM to close on weekends, it's turning into a daycare. For the price (over twice your standard 24 hour gym), I expect less issues and more hours, especially on...
Read moreI joined Hancock Wellness in McCordsville, when they first opened. After two years , we needed to find another fitness company with multiple locations for convenience of our older children. (LA Fitness) Once children left, I decided to check out Hancock again. Nothing had really changed on the interior of the building, and the hours did get more LIMITED. The equipment is nicer than LA Fitness. More user friendly. The pool heater was not working and had not been working for a while from what signs stated. Locker rooms seemed clean and maintained. Good area for Physical Therapy.
When I talked to sales person about enrolling she gave me prices on the individual rate. This is where it gets really disappointing. The individual rate on a per month basis is double that of LA Fitness. The initiation fee is also double that of LA Fitness. I asked if there was a way that initiation fee could be waived since I had been a member prior? She stated the best she could do was prorate me to the 1st of the month. Today was the 28th. To get a rate that is comparable to LA on a per month basis, you MUST sign a 1 YEAR TERM.
In my honest opinion the facility is NOT worth twice what I pay at LA, twice the Initiation fee that I paid at LA, AND limited hours/locations than LA. The equipment is nicer though.
So overall the experience could have been better. The positive of the equipment and physical therapy is NOT worth the negatives. I decided it would be best for me to stay at LA Fitness. There wasn't anything that stood out to me in the facility, to cause me, to pay such a substantial...
Read moreWe haven't taken advantage of our membership at McCordsville yet but I would suggest making sure you understand the schedules of Greenfield and McCordsville. I think McCordsville is either much busier or just has less staff. Greenfield was able to get my daughter in for certification after signing up yesterday much sooner (today) than McCordsville for child certification. We are actually able to start using the membership sooner as neither of us could go without her due to schedules. Not sure the facilities work in conjunction with one another very often as I was the one who thought to call and see if Greenfield could get her in sooner rather than being asked if I would be interested in looking into it. We did have our own scheduling conflicts with the first cert class but more opportunity would be helpful or even the option to pay extra for an individual class (as I would have been willing) could be there. I'm sure the facility is great once we are able to get started but maybe instead of saying they don't accommodate schedules and making people wait because they are "too busy" it would be good to utilize their own resources. I'm sure the two have great people and could make a great team. Looking forward to...
