Great mix of vendors with diverse food! I haven't been to this market since 2016, so it was nice to see some fresh faces and my favorite vendors returning! I spent over $40+ on a delightful feast from 1/2 dozen vendors.
Memis Company (5/5) - Broccoli Quiche was hands-down the stand-out of my feast! Pop it in the oven at 350 for 20 min, presto! It was filling and $10 well spent, have returned many times for it! The Apple Strudel was fun to try and best eaten cold. When warmed up, the soft crust gets brittle. The chunky apple filling is nice, but the strudel is missing that crispy flaky crust. The Inca juice with apple, pineapple, and spices is refreshing and quite sweet and pairs well with some booze - vodka, gin, or Eldenflower!
Luke & Son Global Food (5/5) - The fresh squeezed OJ was made with a labor of love from Luke's kids. It was impressive to watch his daughter squeeze 4 oranges into delicious refreshing juice. The prepared sandwiches and flatbreads looked pretty scrumptious!
House of Empanadas (5/5) - The Empacheese empanada tastes like a cheese pizza! It's soo good and bursting with flavor! The Spinach and feta cheese empanada is light, tasty, and healthy! The Veggie empanada is flavorful and fun to try. I definitely preorder these in advance on Wed mornings (deadline is Wed noon for McLean Farmer's Market pick-up). Only a few select flavors are available at the market and sell out fast by 11am! I'm not a big fan of the mushroom empanada, it has a bold spicy mushroom flavor without any cheese. If you love mushrooms, go for it! I also didn't enjoy the Corn Bread, it was really dense. House of Empanadas is one of my favorite venders and keeps me coming back!
Grace's Pastries (4/5) - The scrumptious raspberry scones are delicious! I wasn't a big fan of the stale spinach foccacia flatbread, the bottom was rock hard and the bread was quite dense. I'm sure if it was made fresh that day, it would have been nice and fluffy and scrumptious! The woman running the stall was super friendly. Would be back for the scone and try other baked goodies!
Ozfeka (4/5) - This popular Mediterranean vendor is at many markets, I've seen them around and their spanakopita are good! The new zucchini fritters tasted like polenta. They were a bit bland, but fun to try!
Sadly, no dogs allowed! :( There are Trump supporters and political groups for upcoming elections gathered outside the market. They aren't bothersome - just be aware. Will come back to grab...
