Loved, loved, loved our time out on the farm. What Julie has done for the animals, the community, her family and herself is INSPIRING! (And in just 12 years). Being enlightened and learning of Julie's level of dedication towards doing what is ethically healthy and right for all was a warming surprise. It was more than your typical farm tour. Every one, all parties, all ages, wore smiles! Participation was encouraged from every age and questions were welcomed! Interacting with the animals was a priceless experience. And so many different animals! We were there when a goat gave birth...who else can say that? Even though it is mentioned as part of the tour, the sampling of goat products was another cherry on top! It was way more than expected! We were able to enjoy samplingd of several cheeses, carmel and fudge! Wow! We were taken aback by how yummy the sampling were! On a side note, our oldest has Celiac disease and wasn't going to be able to sample the cheeses, BUT Julie noticed and had a Gluten Free sample plate brought out for him! We ended up purchasing cheeses, eggs, fudge, the I-Am-Addicted-To caramel, a few soaps and a Harmony Lane Farm T-shirt I proudly wear!
A note ... our 21 yr son commented this would be a great date place! Score Big Points!
A warning, for full disclosure.... TIE UP LONG HAIR! I had my hair up in a scrunchy bun and the goats still got to it. I lost a fair amount of hair from being pulled, chewed, ripped out by the goats. Once they stated they where insistent. I had to cut a clump of hair because I couldn't get all the goat stuff & tangle out of my hair. I do have very long thick hair, so once it came down it was an easy buffet for the goats. Personally, I took it as "all part of the experience" and laughed it off, however I can see this not being so funny to everyone. Animals will act like animals, so act like a human and do your part, at a minimum pin up your long hair.

Read moreNot once in all of my 55 years have I ever thought, "I'd like to cuddle a baby goat." That is, until today! Driving along hwy 96 into Smithville, TN, in need of an afternoon caffeine fix, I saw a sign pointing down a lane that said "Cuddle baby goats - Farm Store - Harmony Lane Farms." I was intrigued and turned onto the narrow road assuring my husband that I just wanted to check out the farm store. I'm thinking if there are baby goats, then momma goats can't be too far behind and goat's milk soap can't be too far behind those. Right on all counts. For $5 we cuddled baby goats, pet llamas, held a macaw, had our shirts chewed and shoes laces untied by Dwarf Nigerian goats, and shopped in the farm store promised on the sign. Before and after entering the animal area, we washed our hands at the washing station with some of their homemade soap. I couldn't stop smelling my hands! We left the store with three different fragrances of goat's milk lotion but I wanted more. We also left with some of their Garlic and Herb Chevre Cheese. We stopped at Dollar General otw home to pick up some crackers so we could try it when we got back. Oh, did we try it. And oh, was it good. Creamy, tangy, garlicky, herby. It was sooooo good. I only wish we had discovered Harmony Lane Farms earlier in the week because we were in the area for a family reunion. All of our nieces and nephews would have LOVED taking the whole farm tour which includes even more fun than we had. We paid $5 each to do what we did. The whole farm tour costs $14 each and would be worth every penny and then some. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and the knowledge of our guide. Check out their website before you go so you can make the most of your visit. And tell Benny the macaw that my...
Read moreMy kids really enjoyed the farm, and my youngest really came out of her shell and tried a lot more interactions! She fell in love holding a baby goat! We got to feed a lot of animals and enjoyed everything up until we were on our way out to leave. I'm hoping the bad experience with the dog coming up and trying to nip her doesn't set her back.
The only reason I'm not giving a 5 start is because as my child was sitting on the bench IN THE INTERACTION AREA, their guardian dog came up to the fence growling and even nipped at my child. So we got up and left the area, and on our way out, the dog went up to another area where a child was standing and snarled at her as well! This dog CAME UP to children that didn't approach him and was aggressive. I very friendly let the staff in the gift shop know the one lady apologized and the other girl who walked in on the convo said well signs say don't approach him he's a working dog and I said yes I understand that totally but he wasnt being approached he was approaching people and snarling and even trying to nip thru the fence and I just wanted someone to know because another guest was very upset by it as well and she replied with well he hasn't been fed yet so he's grumpy because he's hungry..... they should have another fench to keep him away from where people are passing by or keep him in another area. This is a safety risk and even with signs, it still should be alarming that the dog is approaching people in this manner, and you don't need to approach him for it!
This was a good family experience, and I do recommend it, but i also highly recommend if taking children to be very careful by the area where the dog can come up to the walking...
