Elizabeth Frederick Photography — Local services in Meriden

We used Elizabeth Frederick Photography for our maternity and newborn photos. We chose her because we liked some of the work she had on her website and the various props and colors she uses for her newborn sessions. However, when we got our newborn photos, they appeared to be extremely over-edited and did not even look like our son. He looked more like a porcelain doll with pink lipstick. I had communicated to her both in the newborn questionnaire and the day of the shoot that I wasn’t a fan of the super airbrushed look and showed her her own work on her website that I liked. She responded with “I do the same thing for all of my babies” and “maybe those photos were from an old program I used”. And proceeded to do what she wanted. After receiving the pictures, I emailed her with our concerns, called her and left a message and she got back to me 6 days later with photos where the editing was allegedly revised, but there didn’t appear to be a big difference to us. She commented about how our baby was really red, but our feelings are that’s his coloring and we wanted his photos to actually look like him. Also, the contract says that you have 5 days from the day that you receive your gallery to make your 5 photo choices. We received our gallery in the afternoon on 12/12 and the gallery expired 12/15, which is not 5 days. We later realized we were able to download the entire gallery, when the contract says you get to choose 5 photos. We were of course happy about that but it’s one more instance of the contract not being followed, so it makes it really hard to know what to expect. The contract also says you get a pre session consultation, which is basically just a questionnaire that you fill out on your own and submit to her as well as emails back and forth. We found her to be difficult to communicate with and feel that she didn’t really care about us being satisfied. We unfortunately will not be using her...

I got newborn photos done of my son in October 2024. I paid $1000 for the most expensive package offered, including all digital images and an acrylic photo of your choice. After purchasing the package Liz contacted me and told me the acrylic photos were back ordered from the third party company she uses. I stayed on top of the situation, emailing Liz often to check on the status of the acrylic photo. In December I was told the acrylic was delivered to her home, was left in the rain and the box was ruined but was salvageable, and my photo would be sent to my home address. It is now almost May, I have email and called Liz numerous times and have received ZERO response, no call back, no text back or email response. Just for reference if I would have purchased the acrylic separately from one of her packages this photo would cost me approximately $300. I am highly disappointed and would not recommend her services to anyone who doesn’t want to be ripped off. Unfortunately, many other customer have complained of her poor communication and ability to follow through.

UPDATE: I would like to add that I have since received my acrylic photo as promised. While there was certainly a major delay with shipping and communication, I am human and understand that things DO happen. Liz did email me personally and apologize for the inconvenience and stress that the delays caused. Overall, I am still very satisfied with the photos. A few years ago, I took advantage of an awesome special Elizabeth had with some fall mini sessions. We got the most gorgeous family pictures done on an antique bridge with the fall leaves and river in the background. We have FOUR children and she somehow, by sheer talent, the grace of God, or a mix of both, managed to get ALL of them to smile together and took the best pictures I have of them to date. The props she used were unique and creative and she had everything she needed on hand. I recently contacted her about doing a newborn session, and she promptly provided me with all the information and pricing that I needed. Her portfolios speak for themselves and you can't get those kind of images at just any studio. I was a little bummed out when I realized it was going to be out of our budget, since we are going back to one income so I can be a stay at home mom again. I spoke to her today and she offered me an amazing alternative, a newborn mini-session. For less than half the cost, I can get a handful of pictures I love and still stay within a price range I can afford.
