i’ve seen pedestrians almost get hit by a car on every visit to this terribly planned out parking lot. With this sheer volume of people that attend this location, there needs to be better consideration for pedestrian traffic bc of the inherent impatience and carelessness that comes with a large crowd. I don’t know if it is Costco or human nature, but this place brings out the worst in people.
People in cars attempt to run you down. Perhaps they don’t see you or perhaps they don’t care because all they are interested in is saving some money.
The facility is clean and the products are adequate for the cost.
Don’t expect to find something in the same place every week. They will often move items arbitrarily without thought or consistency. Good luck hunting for your typical staple. It may just disappear for two weeks for no reason or warning but you wouldn’t know. The inconsistent location means maybe you missed it.
perhaps the most disappointing part of this store are the staff. While, generally, they are pleasant and nice. I’ve seen staff members ram people with carts stacked full of boxes, slam patrons in the shoulders as they walked past, and generally present, a rude disinterested demeanor when not doing a specific customer facing role. It’s almost as if the volume of people makes the employees believe that people are cattle. And they treat them as such.
Expect to be accosted at the AT&T counter as they bark and yell at the stream of people walking by attempting to draw you in. You can see people brace against their onslaught every time, gripping their carts with white knuckles, trying to avoid eye contact.
Be ready to present your membership card an excessive amount of times and prove that you are, indeed the cardholder. Why do we have to show it 4 times just to scan it at the register?
Just ugh. But the deals.
for the amount of people that flow through here, the internal layout is a disaster of people flowing. Expect your fellow shoppers to ignore common courtesy, and cause, excessive backups, confusion, don’t be surprised if you get hit with somebody’s shopping cart; it probably wasn’t their fault they were avoiding some other person who randomly stopped for a sample or was asked to present their membership card in a demeaning and humiliating way.
I believe that the horrible layout of the store is what leads to people behaving so poorly. I loathe going to Costco but am addicted to the sweet sweet discounts at bulk...
Read moreI’ve been meaning to extend my gratitude to the hearing dept. at Mettawa Costco for awhile.
First off the audiologist and her staff exceeded all of my expectations and clearly outperformed all other hearing professionals I had seen before them. Of course in one particular instance this was easy. They knew I had an appointment!
The Costco staff had no issues reviewing the hearing test performed by others and performed an additional test after explaining what it would consist of prior to starting. The entire time I wasn’t made to feel like I was on the clock as they explained the results of all the tests and the options available to move forward with a purchase. I am convinced a lot of this is due to the fact the staff does not work on commission.
This could also explain why they saved me between $3,500.00 - $5,000.00 compared to the other private professional audiologists in the area who’s assistant’s are referred to as “Medical Specialist”.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, this translates into “Salesman on Commission” who had all tried in vain to get me to sign off on their more expensive hearing aids ASAP because “it was what I needed.”
At Costco, my choices were not as widespread as the private hearing firms but they did include some top brands in addition to their own “Kirkland” brand. I chose Resound™ and have no regrets but in all fairness, I also drive a Toyota without regretting it is not a Bentley. Your feeling’s could differ?
I can also attest to the warrantee which also far exceeds any of those offered by the private firms I tried. At Costco I have come in to have the hearing aids adjusted and cleaned and never had an issue and always free. Other warrantees offered to me by others were pro-rated after just a few months.
While hearing aids are considered medical devices, they are also electronic and with today’s technology they should be getting better and cheaper but it just isn’t happening. You saw the part where I saved $$$ when compared to what some other hearing firms were trying to sell me? Need I say more?
Thank You Costco - Mettawa hearing...
