I played a 9 hole round yesterday afternoon on 4/7/23 and a 3 star rating seems generous and hereās why. Multiple tee boxes are unplayable and have been moved to uneven areas making tee shots more difficult. Bunkers are like concrete. Slow play isnāt addressed and itās 30 bucks to play 9 holes.whereas I played Yankee Trace yesterday morning right before playing here and the difference was night and day. Soft sand bunkers, tee boxes were perfect plus rangers and starters on course and at turn verifying rounds and addressing pace of play. In fact The only thing that was the same was the price. Which makes no sense. Increased from 20 last year to 30 this year for 9 holes. The course being offered to players here is 5 times worse than one of the premier courses in the area, yet somehow Iām supposed to believe itās the SAME PRICE. Sure this place has potential, but itās nowhere near what it needs to be, to be charging what they are. Iād say this is at best a $18 + $4 with a cart 18 caliber course in its current state. So playing here is up to you, but I know right now, youāre definitely not getting what you pay for.
Your website says this verbatim. āLocated just West of I-75 in beautiful Montgomery County (Germantown, Ohio), Jamaica Run Golf Club is one of Miami Valleyās finest courses. Opened in 1989, this well-maintained 18 hole public golf course offers a challenging yet fun golf experience for players of every skill level.ā
1.) This course needs maintained better. Hire people to work there. Pay them a decent wage more than just golf benefits. Mound Golf course is better than this place and is cheaper for 9 holes with a cart. And their carts are better too.
2.) you need to Reduce the rates of greens fees, not increase them. youāre going to drive out the paying people when they realize every course in this area with the exception of heatherwood is cheaper for way better course conditions.
3.) fix the bunkersā¦. Or remove them. Do literally anything to improve them. Add sand, work them over, LITERALLY ANYTHING.
4.) fix the tee boxes, hire grounds crew members to grow grass since this course has been trying to grow tee boxes for three seasons and canāt seem to keep them up.
10 years ago this course was an elite course in pristine condition. Now itās not. Itās nowhere near it. What you have going on now just aināt it. This review should be a 2 star. Fix it up, bring an amateur tournament there, get the USGA to come out and Survey what improvements Need done. I donāt want to give up on this place, but itās...

Jamaica run needs some help. Played 18 today and parts of the course are in desperate shape. Both staffing and the general upkeep. The greens need cut and rolled something awful, and the Bunkers are pretty much unplayable concrete pads whereas pipestone yesterday 3/15/22 were well maintained and soft sand. Talking with some of the volunteers out there and there just arenāt enough people. So if you know anyone wanting to help make a golf course better then please by all means get in contact with Jamaica run, Iām sure they can use the help.
The updates and regrow theyāve done with the tee boxes are promising as well as the new water system upgrades they tried to install last year. The fairways are in good shape and the rough is in good shape. Overall itās a good course just needs a few things. The 5th star I would give hinges on the aforementioned and if they would implement any of the following:
Ideas I have for the course would be greens keeping and bunker maintenance. Adding a GPS system in the carts with yardages. Holding a club tournament with handicap allowed. Holding an open tournament during the week like Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday and one later in the year on a weekend. Holding a Jr event for ages (10-17). For the Jrās, The winner could win a membership to the course for a year and a trophy and a 500 dollar scholarship. For the adults it would be the membership a trophy and 50% of the pay in pot. The course retain the rest. These are just a few ideas I have to make this course competitive with others in the area. I like this course a lot played here a lot and used to volunteer here when I had the free time. it kills me to see it need this much help. Thatās why Iām putting this out there in an attempt to appeal to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI played there on the morning of August 1st, around 9:00am. This was my first visit to the course, and I'd read many critical reviews the night before.
Overall, it wasn't as bad for us as others had commented, but there are several things - some good and some not so good - that stood out.
That's cool, promotions don't last forever. BUT, if it's over, then someone from the Course should have updated the rates webpage. OR, failing that, post a highly visible sign at the checkout desk that that offer isn't active any longer.
It was a situation the clerk shouldn't have been put in, but also a missed opportunity to impress some first time visitors to the course by knocking $5.00 bucks off of our fees.
And three days later...its still on the rates page....
The course property is beautiful.
Less so the actual condition of the course. The fairways and most of the greens were fine, some of the sand traps were pretty barren and hardened and the cart paths seemed like they belonged to a golf course in Kiev.
The snack tent staff was great! The two women were hustling and pretty organised. They were friendly and the hot dogs and sodas really hit the spot after the 9th hole.
Yes, I'll be back... I understand the course management is aware of the opportunities that need attention and things don't change overnight. Good luck to Jamaica Run as you address the issues.
I look forward to...
