I am not one to complain but I have to bring this to the general manager at the Woodlands attention. I had a 7:24 AM tee time (Saturday 7/29/23) where I arrive at my normal one hour prior to going out. As soon as I was completed with my warm up I drove my cart over to the starter who looked extremely confused and stressed. I informed him of my 7:24 AM tee time and he asked me to go head over to the first tee box. There was a group of three standing around looking even more confused as well as another gentleman who had the same tee time as I did. The group of three that was waiting was late and they had a fourth player that was late as well so they opted to continue without him. By this time it was already close to 7:30 AM. I figured, getting out a little late isn't so bad. As soon as the group in front was out and close to the green a golf cart of two other gentlemen pulled up followed by the starter. The starter asked me for my name and tee time again, then told me that I had been moved to 7:48 AM ... 24 minutes beyond my original tee time which in my opinion is unacceptable. The whole point of getting out early was to avoid the excessive heat expected later that morning and afternoon. I would think for $92 to ride the management could be a little more efficient with getting the groups out on time. I understand there are occasions when this may not happen but in any case there was no point in punishing me where they could've made the group that was behind us wait instead of pushing them in front of us. I have to say though, the gentleman in the clubhouse was very apologetic and offered me other options to go out on the back side first and then eventually get paired up on the front. However, I opted out because no matter what I would've went out later than planned and then right in the middle of the excessive heat. I would hope in order to maintain integrity the Woodlands management would work proactively to ensure groups get out on time consistently. I'm not looking for compensation or any further apologies. I just want management to be aware that this type of behavior is unacceptable....
Read moreIf there were Hole signs, I would have given 5 stars. I tried today for the first time and was very confused where to tee off. Even I was confused which one is the Woodlands Golf course. Luckily, i met a couple of golfer who were willing to play with me today. They helped me find each holes. Even though GPS is equipped with the cart, it is not that easy to find right holes.
However, this course is beautifully designed and loved each holes. I have played many difficult courses around this areas- mostly in Montgomery county. This course can be compared to Worhtington Manor or Whiskey Creek. Actually, while writing, I thought maybe it could be a bit less challenging than those two but more difficult than P.B. Dye. Pin locations are crazily set and all greens were not easy, but I enjoyed all ups and downs. There were many dog-legged holes and elevated Par 3 holes. Even though I didn't get the score that I normally get, definitely I will get back and practice a bit more.
Another thing is that the staff was not really friendly and he didn't explain anything about the course or even told me where to go get a cart. I really liked 17 holes (very deep down hills- gotta hit the driver about 250 yard to roll your ball close to the Green) and 18holes that I couldn't see the pin but...
Read moreWoodlands is a well designed and challenging course. Maybe a little too challenging for beginners. While usually well maintained, it can get a bit rain soaked at times. It has a very good mix of long and short par 4s, the par 3 are reasonable length (none over 200 yards). If I have a knock on the course, it would be greens of only average pace (if they made them faster, the course would be wonderful) and nearly unreachable par 5s except for the very longest hitters. I have played the course many times so I know where to hit it off the tee (position and lay ups). First time players might be a little daunted by some blind tee shots (and the second shot in #13), but after a few rounds, it is a good challenge for good players. If the course were in country club condition, it would...
