I purchased a 2020 Ford Expedition from Homer Skelton Ford in Millington, TN under the Blue Advantage Gold Certification. Nothing about this went the way it was supposed to. The idea behind purchasing a certified used vehicle is that it's been thoroughly checked and reconditioned so there are no problems (I purchased this car sight unseen based upon that premise and the information provided by the sales staff at Homer Skelton Ford). Unfortunately, this is NOT the approach Homer Skelton Ford took with this vehicle. Instead, they did "just enough" to be able to certify it then passed the headache of getting issues fixed under warranty to the buyer. The vehicle has an issue with transmission and/or rear differential causing it to shake violently under certain conditions (nobody can look at it for a month due to service backlogs), the brakes vibrate, the driver's seat has something broken inside, the trim piece for the third row seat is broken, and one of the headlight housings is cracked causing the lens to fog up. The used car manager seemed to be supportive in helping to resolve the issues, but as soon as my checked cleared they ghosted me. Beyond that, the car was filthy upon delivery (food and soda spilled on the dash and console causing buttons to stick, dirt caked under the back hatch and glass, dog hair and food between and the seats, dead bugs and trash in the door pockets, windshield washer fluid streaked all over the front bumper), the rear wiper was not changed, the floor mats were replaced with some cheap all weather versions, the fuel filler funnel was missing, and probably ten other issues I've not found yet. I feel like this dealership has taken full advantage of the fact that I am not a local that can come straight in and complain to them. Overall, this is the WORST car buying experience I've ever had.
Update: After submitting this review, Home Skelton Ford agreed to repair the vehicle. They took it back and gave me a lessor model as a loaner. After keeping my vehicle for two months, they claimed it was fixed and returned it. When I met their driver to swap vehicles, I tested the issue and it had not been fixed. I called the used sales manager and service manager, who claimed the truck was not shaking when they looked at it, and refused to work on it further. Not only did they not fix the issue, they damaged the transfer case seal, resulting in leaking stinky gear oil all over the underside of the vehicle. I was ultimately able to take my car to my local dealer, Machen's Capital City Ford, who properly diagnosed the issue and fixed it by installing a new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreProbably the oldest trick in the book but FIRST TIME BUYERS BE AWARE or anyone new to the car purchasing process. Before even making it into the office I told my rep, Keith miller, that I would be financing through my own bank and was already preapproved. He still asked for my information, it wasnāt until after he came back to tell me what all he seen on my credit report did I realize he pulled my credit. When asking if he done so, he replied that my own bank shared it with him in which I found out to be a complete lie. Upon meeting and talking to him he told us he had been in the field for 20+ years. Fast forward to speaking with a manager about the incident and asking him to dispute the inquiry, he told me that Keith miller didnāt know any better and he would make sure it didnāt happen in the āfutureā. He also asked did I give him my information in which I told him yes and that I thought it was needed for purchasing process also mentioning that to him that by law itās only legal to pull oneās credit with consent and in my case illegal if you tell the lender that your already financing with someone else. He didnāt care and told me him wouldnāt dispute the action and to just wait until I received a letter in the email and to try to dispute it myself.
ā¼ļøRESPONSE: Since theres not an option to reply
As mentioned before - A car dealership needs your permission, in the form of written consent (in which I never did nor have you shown proof of me doing so ) to run a HARD CREDIT INQUIRY. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) protects consumers from unauthorized credit checks. Just because you provide personal information to a dealership, such as your Social Security Number, it doesn't automatically grant them permission to run a credit check. In my case, during the initial conversation between the rep and I it was directly told to him that I did not want to finance with your company and that I had my own. No matter how you look at it or try to word it what you guys did was wrong and illegal ! I did not want a loan with your lenders point blank and told you that. My information was asked out of deceit and given out of lack of knowledge unknowingly what it would be used for. Either way I never authorized that HARD CREDIT INQUIRY. Not to mention that when I asked the rep had he pulled my credit his answer was āNOā. This further proves that doing business with you is risky and untrustworthy. Especially after not even trying to fix the situation after it was brought to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuperior in every way. The perfect fit in our community. If you want a cheap experience, you probably can do as well anywhere else. But if you want a personalized, long-term relationship, from first visit to 100,000 mile service, this is your place. Itās the people who make a difference. I rarely write reviews, and only if it is a 1 or 5-star experience. These are 5-star people.
Sales people sell you the first car; maintenance department sells you the rest. I bought my first truck at this location under different ownership in 2004. Our service advisor was fantastic, and I was determined to buy every car from them. I bought two more cars from them before moving away three years later. We returned to the area four years later and happily found our service advisor still working there. I have owned 40 vehicles in my life, purchased all over America, mostly German and Big-3, and HS Ford has the best service I have found anywhere in America. The hook is in!! Iām sure other advisors are good; ask for Carl - you wonāt regret it.
Fords last a long time, so it wasnāt until the pasts year that we were looking for a new truck. Our sales person was the most patient, knowledgeable, kind and light-hearted person. Again, a personalized local experience that just made me want to go back. Ask for Candice. Working with her was like going to see friend who wanted to make sure we bought the best truck for us, not the best truck for her. The deal closed the evening before when my wife said, ājust go buy a truck from Candice. I like her a lot.ā Done!!
Finally, Kenny (sales manager) and Mike (finance manager) are also like working with friends who only want to sell you what you want and need. I just like these guys.
If you want a drive-through sales, you can probably get it here as anywhere else. But if you want good people with whom would be just as comfortable spending $75k on a vehicle as you would having them at your home for a Bar-B-Cue, only go to Homer Skelton Millington. It is simply our...
