Highway Robbery! AAA dispatched Hewitt's Service Center in Monroe, IA to tow my car from Knoxville to Des Moines when it broke down. AAA managed my expectations appropriately about the estimated towing charges based on the distance to be towed so I wouldn't be surprised. When Hewitt's Service Center contacted me, they used a mileage estimate that was almost 30% more than what AAA and my own GPS was telling me. I tried to explain unsuccessfully, that both AAA and my GPS were estimating something very different, but they kinda had me over a barrel so I agreed to use their service with the hope that AAA would help me resolve the significant overcharge. I did get AAA involved and they confirmed their earlier estimate in multiple conversations and said they would intervene. In the mean time, after waiting for hours at this point, Hewitt's Service Center's tow truck finally arrives. After a long, agonizing process of providing them all the same information I already provided over the phone and they should have already had from AAA, they try to strong arm me into signing off on their inflated mileage estimate and authorizing a towing charge much higher than AAA estimated. When I wouldn't agree, they left me hanging. When AAA intervened with Hewitt's Towing Service on my behalf, Hewitt's Towing Service would not budge and refused to provide service even after they charged my credit card for the inflated charge. These guys were clearly taking advantage of my situation and used shady,...
Read moreThe only negative was they cut off my valve stems and replaced them, charging me extra for no reason at all by the time I noticed it was too late. They should have asked me if I wanted them replaced. Or not charged me for them, because I wasn't even aware that they were gonna cut and replace them when they were 100% nothing wrong with them at all. I was given a 30$ quote on a mount and balance 2 new back tires I had brought myself and the total price was 41.73 with tax The 2nd problem I had was that they kept my tires and I thought they put the old ones in my trunk or "again " they should have asked me if I wanted to keep them or have them dispose of the tires. Because I wanted to keep one of them for a full size spare since my car has no spare tire at all. I now have a full set of brand new tires. And had them put on by 2 different shops they were spaced about a month apart. I now need a front end alignment but I don't have a clue where I should go to get the best price, not be overcharged and have it done properly. The workers were nice, I would like to see more people wearing masks everywhere covid is not gone...and it isn't gonna be for...
Read moreIf it was possible for zero stars, I would give it. Had a close friend of mine try to drive down home to SE Iowa from school in Ames. The towing company, after the police department attempted to get ahold of them, would not answer. When the police officers allowed my friend to have a couple of amazing gentlemen pull them out, the tow truck guy drove by without even glancing at my friend in the ditch. After my friend found out they had a flat tire, and had a broken jack and was unable to put on their spare, they called this tow guy again and mentioned that he drove right past my friend. The tow guy told my friend that it was irresponsible for my friend qnd the police to allow them to have other people pull them out after they had been waiting for SEVERAL HOURS to get ahold of them, and said that even if he had a jack he wouldn't come help my friend because of this and would not call anybody else to come help. It was absolutely ludicrous for this to happen, and if the driver doesn't feel good, then they probably should have called someone else in for their shift if they aren't actually going to do their...
