Called & left a message for a general manager to get back to me about an incident today regarding my underaged teenaged daughters, an underaged friend of theirs & 2 male lifegaurds & have yet to receive a call back. My daughters were dropped off at the Boyce Park Wave pool today to meet & spend the day with a few of their close friends & several of other family members (family members well over the age of 21.) My daughters & their friend were harassed, foul language was used & body shaming/ derogatory comments were made by 2 of the male lifegaurds. One of my daughters took it upon herself to approach the manager on duty. The managers way of reconciling the issue was to give my girls & their friend free one time passes?! I’m just confused as to how that is a way of fixing this type of issue? I read the job requirements for a lifeguard & none of the duties mentioned were body shaming, belittling or degrading underage girls in bathing suits. It makes me truly question the safety of our children in the pool when lifeguards that are hired are more concerned with how UNDERAGED GIRLS look in bathing suits than watching the pool to guarantee the safety of others & their children. At this point, a one day pass to come back is inadequate. Why would my daughters want to come back at this point? The level of unprofessionalism displayed by male staff is completely & utterly disgusting & that’s putting it mildly. The comments made were described as being PREDATORY. The 2 male lifeguards should be ashamed of themselves. Their behavior was foul & highly inappropriate. My daughters & their friend were eager to get out of the house & enjoy a fun filled sunny day & instead were verbally assaulted by 2 male staff members that were hired to provide a safer environment for families & children. How is this considered safe? That’s concerning.
If you’re the parent of a teenaged underage girl(s) my advice to you is upon visiting this establishment, stay by their side. It is clear that appropriate measures are not being taken upon hire & management clearly can’t be trusted.
I will not under any circumstances change my review or delete it until I hear directly from an owner or general manager regarding the issue & that it is addressed...
Read moreWhere do I start? Staff is lazy. Haven't seen anyone over the age of maybe 22 or so working, so can't say I'm surprised. They regularly close the snack bar early. It's supposed to close an hour and a half before the pool does and you can't bring outside food, so I guess you just have to leave if you're hungry. Which I imagine they don't mind because 2 out the 3 times we've been there this summer, the pool itself was closed early while there were a good 30-35 people still swimming. The one time we did eat, our food was cold and tasted like it sat for a while. Kid "working" the rafts was sleeping on a pile of them. They also didn't reimburse the dollar they are supposed to when it's returned. On top of all of that, most of the staff is plain rude. The girl working at the gate is very nice, though. As well as one of the male life guards who was was kind to my daughter when she was nervous about jumping in. The rest that I dealt with seemed annoyed just to be there and didn't know how to say please, thank you or you're welcome. We're 25 min away, so we won't be wasting our time and money there anymore. I'm thinking season passes for sand castle next year for...
Read moreWhile the chaperone policy has helped greatly, they are playing their same old games again!!! Last summer, they cancelled the last 2 or 3 weeks of the season due to an electrical problem. Last Sunday, August 17th, they closed the pool early due to an electrical problem again. Not sure why they couldn't have just stayed open for a few more hours with no waves. So today, Saturday April 23rd, it was hot, sunny and 88°. I drove over to the wave pool...and it was CLOSED!!! It would be nice if someone at the county learned how to update their website to show when the pool is closed. So it appears that the entire next-to-last weekend the pool will be closed and I suspect it will be closed again for Labor Day weekend, although I have no doubt that they will find a way to open it on Labor Day afternoon for the dog swim for $20 per dog!!! They open late to start the summer and close early to...
