I do not recommend bringing any animal to this clinic if you're dealing with a serious medical situation. I brought my dog, Maisie, in on a Wednesday morning because I suspected she had a blockage after swallowing part of a towel. I live over an hour away but was staying in Montfort until I got a call saying her X-rays were done. I was told by the receptionist they would call me as soon as they had results.
After waiting an hour and a half with no update, I followed up myself. I was told the X-rays didn’t show anything, but they were going to keep Maisie for monitoring since she hadn’t eaten or drank anything in two days. I asked about her bloodwork and was told the doctor would message me. The doctor later contacted me and said they hadn’t done any bloodwork and asked if I wanted it done—even though I had already requested it when I brought her in.
I received no updates unless I called first. On Thursday, my fiancé picked Maisie up because the staff said “she seemed fine” and just needed to be monitored at home. But she still wouldn’t eat or drink. The paperwork we received stated a fecal test was recommended, so when Maisie finally pooped, we saved a sample. When we called to bring it in, they said, “We’re just happy she pooped—no need to bring the sample back.” That response felt dismissive and unprofessional. We ended up taking the sample to a local vet, who tested it and confirmed Maisie had a parasite.
Sadly, that still wasn’t the worst part. That night, Maisie was clearly in pain, so I rushed her to the emergency vet in Middleton. I brought the X-rays from Montfort, but the emergency vet said they were unreadable and had to take new ones. The new X-rays clearly showed a serious blockage—Maisie needed emergency surgery right away.
I was in shock. One vet had just told me my dog was fine and ready to go home. Less than eight hours later, another vet told me she needed emergency surgery.
I will never take either of my dogs back to Montfort Vet, and I absolutely would not recommend them. The poor communication, misdiagnosis, and lack of urgency were unacceptable—especially in a critical situation. On top of that, I paid a bill and left without answers. If your pet is in serious condition, go directly to the emergency vet in Middleton, WI. They gave us the care, communication, and answers we needed. I just wish I had gone...
Read moreLike many veterinary services, they are very busy. However, when our dog had signs of a UTI last fall, they were the ONLY ones who gave us the option to bring in a urine sample without an appointment. We jumped on it because appointments from Madison to Montfort were weeks to months out and we wanted our girl feeling better. We took in the sample, had it tested and got meds the same day. She was feeling better within days. Fast forward to this fall and our fur baby had some another UTI. This time she wasn't improving but they worked with us to get her in for an X-ray right away. Poor girl has bladder stones and they booked her for surgery THE NEXT DAY. Our B had a rough start in life - she is a rescue pup that was placed in a home that didn't work out. We got her at 18months and she had a LOT of anxiety. We have worked with her for the last two years and made huge improvements to her anxiety but she still struggles with some things. The ladies at Montfort vet worked with us to be sure B was the only one in the reception at any given time, made her feel comfortable through every step and loved on her like she was their own. She is home now, recovering and thankful for the wonderful Dr. Megan and staff. Her human siblings are so thankful she is on the mend. My spouse and I are thankful she is on the mend, thankful they were reasonably priced and thankful they were able to work with our schedules and B's anxiety. We cannot thank Montfort Vet staff enough. If you are reading this because you need a vet - you have found the right place! Thank...
Read moreYup. My sweet Pit Bull mix Zooby got a growth under his tongue that started interfering with his drinking and eating, I needed a break stick to see it because he was guarding his mouth so obsessively that I couldn’t examine it.
Slid it in first, then got my finger under his tongue, and when he opened up a bit, wedged it behind his cutting molars. Held it with one hand and used the other to take pictures for the vet.
They are not pretty pictures. I had no idea how bad he had it.
My ex-wife found this clinic in Monfort Wisconsin, west of Dodgeville, who would do the surgery without charging me $1400 for for useless diagnostic tests to determine if the surgery would permanently solve the problem for a 14 year old dog. If the surgery didn't work, I would have to put him to sleep. I wanted to give him a chance.
They did a great job, and I got a whole extra year with Zooby, and I am forever grateful to this clinic, who were willing to treat my dog at a price I could afford--about $600.
Moral of the story--go to Monfort Veterinary Service for good care for your pet without all the expensive geegaws they will insist on in Madison.
And stay on good terms...
