The course itself is a nice layout. Challenging and enjoyable. Nice scenery. This course needs someone consistently going around and maintaining pace of play. I called about 45 minutes ahead of time and asked if there was a spot for a single to go off around 1030 and was told yeah I can get you out, should be fine. I get it, a tee time in advance would have been better. So I pull up to the first tee, passing the putting green. I get this look from a couple of guys at the putting green like I'm doing something unbelievable. I'm pretty simple when I go to play by myself. I don't fool around, I don't spend 15 minutes searching for a golf ball. So I arrive at the first tee. There's a foursome approaching the green. Fine, they probably had a tee time. So I wait until they get on the green until I tee off. I reach my tee shot as they are finishing up on the green. I figure okay get the first hole out of the way, maybe they see me and I can just tee off on 2 and then go on my way. I finish on the first, pull up to the second tee, nope they have started playing the second hole. By the time I got to the fifth I was starting to get pretty pissed. Most of you will agree that if you wait excessively in between holes it throws off your rhythm and then you screw up and so on and so forth. Put this into perspective for you, I can usually complete 18 holes by myself in about 2 hours or so. I teed off on one at 1020, after I finished hole 7 at 1220 I decided to leave. Every time I play this course, most other golfers playing here just have no consideration for pace of play or anyone else. I don't care who you are, I spent the same amount of money to play the course, have a little common sense and courtesy, especially if I have to sit on a tee box 15 minutes while you are searching for golf balls that you have no hope of finding. I just hate paying the money to play here and not be able to enjoy it because of the other golfers being inconsiderate and acting like they are superior to anyone else on the golf course. It's a shame, the course is beautiful and when they maintain it (in their defense it has rained a lot lately, probably no opportunity to keep up with it) this course is probably the best quality in the Hagerstown vicinity. But I have played this course multiple times and it's always an issue. So, I just have to find somewhere else to play. If you don't mind waiting for other people for an excessive amount of time and don't care to play through, by all means, go enjoy...
Read moreSummarized: I golf here at least 3-4 times a year. Breakfast tournaments and all. I stayed at the Mercesburg Inn in October. We had the Inn get us two rounds, we paid for them, then we picked them up upon arrival. That weekend it dumped rain and the course was not open. I have tried to get back but due to weather and scheduling I can not. I called Whitetail and explained the situation. They told me no refunds and I MUST use the passes before the new year or they expire. IT’S NOVEMBER! I even asked if I could pay an extra fee to validate them into a the next year, they said no. Then I asked about a refund and they said no. They said I have to take it up with the Inn. They are not Inn promotional passes. They are WHITETAIL PASSES bought and paid for from Whitetail. Basically they will do nothing to right the situation. They obviously do not value my business nor the multiple people I golf there with every year. They will NEVER get another penny from myself or anyone else that I know. I hope that $100 they refuse to make right was worth it. They will be losing much more than that. Also, I do not write this with the intentions to bash them. I’m clearly writing this to make public the shadiness that has...
Read moreOn my way to WV and decided to play a round here based on the price and positive reviews. Whitetail did not disappoint! This course is crafted and carved from the natural landscape. Rivers, ponds and creeks serve as natural obstacles you have to maneuver through and around. Many of the tee boxes are elevated but it’s deceiving. One thing I liked was the yardage markers on the tee boxes also had a mark yardage mark to the end of the fairway. I hold an 11.3 handicap and decided to play the white tees (6243). Not too long, but challenging. Winds were moderate over the front nine. I noticed many of the fairways slope left and the rough is already summer and tournament ready😃 I ended the round with an 87, but took a mulligan on Hole 7. Would have had an 89 straight up. I would definitely play here again. The greens are challenging, rolled great and offer plenty of breaks. Kudos to the staff. Shelly welcomed me at the check in. She actually returned my call and apologized for the delay. That means something. They suffered some storm damage and were without power for a few days. At the turn, you can call ahead for a hot dog or burger. I recommend the Caddy Dog! Great job Whitetail Team! You’ve...
