Just had a terrible experience at the Dependable Drive In. My dietary restrictions don’t allow me to eat most things at the concession stand, so I thought I’d order food while enjoying the movie. A friend and I walked out to pick up the food so as not to disrupt the movie, but were met by an angry old man. He was very upset and informed me that I can bring in food, but can’t pick up food at the drive in. He was extremely disrespectful, yelled at us, and called two other men for “back up”. I offered to pay him extra to apologize for my mistake, as I was not aware. But he just said no and that some people aren’t meant for the drive in. He told me that he would have a disposal service take away my food if I wanted to stay and watch the movie. Overall it was a terrible experience, I won’t be returning, and I will be spreading the word to others. -He told me that this was a rule listed on the website, but I confirmed afterwards that it is not. My review is focused on the wings. They are breaded and deep fried the way God intended. They are pretty great for concession food. They were a good medium size wing. I would rate them somewhere above appetizer-grade, but not quite entree-grade. And, for concession food, they were cheap. $8 for 7 wings. (Not sure if one of those wings was a freebie.) Will definitely get 2 or 3 orders again next time I am here. As for reviewing the drive-in theater, we had a lot of fun. Shout out to the staff, they were all really cool. They did an awesome job corralling the cars into appropriate places so that big vehicles weren't blocking. (Seriously, the staff that did this spent like 3 hours walking back and forth. They worked their butts off.) If you are looking for a drive-in, this is supposed to be the best one in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. And the wings are pretty great.

I love the drive in. More than my kids (young teens) and more than most people (I suspect). So my review is surely biased. There may still be well equipped drive ins, but not around Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, here's what to expect:

Screen 1 is great, the audio exists but is not sufficient; plan to use your car sound or a solid speaker system.

The rest of the screens (2-4) sit closer to the highway and airport. If you plan to stay in your car, assuming you find that pleasant, you could have a lovely experience. There are no external speakers, so you have to tune into their radio frequency.

Everyone is pleasant and the kids running the concession stand are nice. If you set yourself up, watching movies outside is delightful.

My list of essentials: loud (as you can get) audio. Like, a boom box:) If you want to run your car, sure, but nothing beats showing up your neighbors with a loud quality speaker. -camping chairs. Blankets work, but if you're staying for hours ... -a cardigan or sweatshirt. Long pants of it's closing in on fall:) you won't think you need it, but closer to midnight, in the grass, surrounded by trees you'll appreciate the option:) -munchies. BUT the concession stand has dried food, popcorn, and chocolate covered frozen bananas, so you'll be ok:) I'm not really solid on the concession stand, I often just have time to make dinner and throw it in a cooler and go. But that's fin, too:) -alcohol is not permitted. It's a drive in. I suspect that discrete patrons would be fine. Not from experience, of course...but, you know, somebody's got to...

My boyfriend and I recently went to the drive-in, and unfortunately had one of the most uncomfortable and unprofessional experiences.

On our way in, there was a flagger standing at the bottom of the hill, but he had no reflective gear or anything that identified him as staff. Because of this, we thought he was just a pedestrian trying to get by, so we drove past him slowly (around 5–10 mph). When we got to the booth, the older man working there immediately accused us of “flying by,” which wasn’t true at all.

We calmly explained what happened and apologized, but instead of listening, he dismissed us, said it was “pointless to argue,” and then made things even worse by making a rude and inappropriate comment about a “smell” coming from us or our car. As two young Black customers, this instantly made the situation feel targeted and discriminatory. He even threatened to call the police, despite the fact that we had done nothing wrong.

Feeling extremely uncomfortable, we decided to leave. On our way out, we stopped and spoke to the flagger directly. He was polite and told us he never claimed we almost hit him—he just mentioned we drove past. This confirmed that the employee at the booth exaggerated the situation and treated us unfairly.

Overall, this experience was disrespectful, unprofessional, and felt racially motivated. We will not be returning, and I hope management takes this seriously so future customers don’t go through...

We got in about a half hour before the 7:30 movie on screen 2 tonight, parked at the concessions at screen 1 to get dinner and snacks. Got a solid amount of food for two for $23.50.

As we were getting back to our car, an attendant offered a suggestion that we park our Kia Rio in a different spot for visibility, since it wasn't very crowded. When we explained we were actually heading toward at screen 2 (and that I had forgot the directions from the box office, and that this was our first time) he gave us very good directions to get us where we needed to go.

It was a bit more full at screen 2, but we were early and used the movie that was finishing up to try out some parking spaces. I'm 6'3" and in our little compact the third row back from that screen, with my seat near-fully reclined gave a comfortable view of the screen. In the first three rows, if I had to sit up, I would be hunching to see the screen. We didn't try all the available rows, though. Maybe we'll poke around more next time. I was happy with where we settled and reclining.

The radio connection was quality, the food was better than a lot of fast food I've had, and the staff was very helpful. We'll certainly...
