Yesterday was my four year adoption anniversary! For those who don’t know, I used to be in training to be a Seeing Eye Dog! 🦮 I was at The Seeing Eye for 12 days, but I realized being a guide dog was not meant for me (confidence/nervousness issues). So my dad came to adopt me back as his forever pet and this was my reaction to hearing the amazing news! 🥰 I think it’s safe to say I missed him ❤️ #germanshepherd #adoption #gsd #dog #theseeingeye #guidedog

Happy International Guide Dog Day! Gifts made to @The Seeing Eye in honor of the day will be doubled! To donate, go to: SeeingEye.org. Descriptive Transcript: Haben and her Seeing Eye dog Mylo walk through a crowded airport. Haben is wearing a long lilac overcoat and a floral dress; she's wheeling a suitcase beside her. A man carrying a black brief case hurries past Mylo. In front of Mylo, an airport employee pushes a wheelchair. Haben: It’s International Guide Dog Day! Guiding through the Amsterdam airport, with all the busy travelers -- no problem, he's a guide dog. Mylo walks ahead of Haben on a dirt trail. All around them is bright, green shrubbery and the tall trunks of trees. A tree appears in the middle of the trail and Mylo guides Haben around it with ease. Haben: Hiking through the California redwoods, rocks and roots cluttering the trail -- he's got it, he's a guide dog. Holding his harness lets me feel his body move, and I step and pivot alongside him. Back at the Amsterdam airport, Mylo moves quickly through what is now a relatively clear pathway. Then a man looking down at his phone crosses in front of Mylo; Mylo slows to avoid running into him. Haben: As a Deafblind woman, I feel a greater sense of freedom and safety having him by my side. Mylo received his training at The Seeing Eye. Haben and Mylo stand beside a statue of Morris Frank and his guide dog, Buddy. Frank's right arm swings forward at his side, while his left holds Buddy's harness. Haben and Mylo are on the right side of the statue, posed in the same way. Haben: Every year they train hundreds of dogs to help blind people navigate the world. An illustration of a person, just their leg and arm, holding a harness attached to a dog. White text in front of the guide dog's chest reads: The Seeing Eye. Under the image: www.seeingeye.org Haben: If you can donate or volunteer some time, please support The Seeing Eye. #TheSeeingEye #SeeingEyeDog #GuideDog #InternationalGuideDogDay

It’s International Guide Dog Day! Please share this video and encourage people to support @The Seeing Eye. You can volunteer to help raise Seeing Eye puppies or make a donation by going to SeeingEye.org. Descriptive Transcript: A German Shepherd dog on a big fluffy bed gazes toward the camera with his ears pointed. Beside him is a toy bone. Haben (voiceover): Is this a guide dog or a Seeing Eye dog? Let's learn the facts so we don't step on any paws. Haben Girma, a Black woman in her thirties with long dark hair, wears a colorful dress. She stands in front of closed blue curtains, speaking to the camera. Haben: There are schools all over the world that train dogs to guide blind people, but the oldest school is called The Seeing Eye, and it's in Morristown, New Jersey. Only dogs from The Seeing Eye should be called Seeing Eye dogs. Danielle Burton, a white woman in her thirties with long brown hair, wears a floral vest over a pink shirt, light-colored pants, and a backpack with an attached dog bowl. She walks while holding the leather harness connecting her to her Seeing Eye dog. Danielle (voiceover): Danielle is walking down an unpaved road. She is being guided by her Seeing Eye dog Violet, who is a black Labrador Retriever. Violet is navigating various obstacles. Violet steps cautiously on a forest trail covered in twigs and roots. Above them, the treetops glow golden in the evening sun. The video returns to Haben speaking. Haben: Because of our civil rights laws, just about anywhere the public can go guide dogs can go. I was at a cafe the other day and they said no dogs allowed. But someone else in line saw this and they spoke up and said actually, you have to allow service dogs. This is a service dog. I love when bystanders become allies! You help make our world more accessible when you advocate for the people around you. Kiran Kaja, a tall man in his forties with medium brown skin and short black hair, wears a blue shirt, light-colored pantss, and a backpack. He walks with a Golden Retriever Seeing Eye dog. Kiran (voiceover): My guide dog India is professionally trained by The Seeing Eye to help blind people like me independently navigate the world. Here he is confidently guiding me through a produce aisle in the grocery store without getting distracted by all the fresh food around him. India walks beside open refrigerated shelves of vegetables. He continues past Haben and Mylo, her German Shepherd Seeing Eye dog, and India stays entirely focused on guiding Kiran. The video cuts to a commuter train pulling into a station. Haben stands on the platform with her Seeing Eye dog Mylo. Haben (voiceover): Lots of dogs can memorize routes, but Seeing Eye dogs are so well trained they can guide in places they've never been before. Seeing Eye dog Mylo takes cues from me. I need to know which train to take, and once it arrives then I can tell him to help us find the door. When Haben gestures with her hand Mylo swiftly guides them to the nearest door. He waits for her to find the step, and then they both climb inside the train. The video cuts to Haben speaking. Haben: Thousands of hours and dollars go into training these amazing dogs. The Seeing Eye is a registered charity, and if you'd like to make a donation or volunteer your time, go to SeeingEye.org. It's International Guide Dog Day, so please share this video and encourage people to support The Seeing Eye. #InternationalGuideDogDay #GuideDog #SeeingEyeDog #ServiceDog

I saw the same terrible behavior on March 12th around 3:20 pm on South Street. A tall middle-aged man not only choked a yellow lab but also smacked the dog in the face. The dog had only been slightly distracted by another dog nearby. When he hit the dog I heard other people around me on the street gasp. I spoke out to the man, saying that this kind of treatment was not right. He was very rude and told me I did not know anything about their training techniques. I said that may be so but I do know cruelty when I see it. I told him I would report it and he said go ahead. I did call Seeing Eye and spoke with the training manager who said he would speak to the man about the incident. I certainly hope we will not see more of these “training techniques” on our streets and a lot more respect for these service dogs who...

Trying desperately to get in touch with the puppy co-ordinator in my area. 3 phone calls. 1 to a cell, 1 to Facility & one to campus. We lost our dear Sirius ( from them). It will be 2 years in April. My life is extremely disfunctional without him. Being a frontline worker at the nearby hospital makes my cry for a pup even more distressful.

I attempted to channel that energy into a local group raising pups for PTSD Soldiers. Then it finally came to the forefront of a conversation that I was heavily involved with covid patients, THEY SLAMMED THE DOIR IN MY FACE & asked me NOT to return. Despite ALL THE PRECAUTIONS...
