I genuinely wanted to like this place. I was rooting for it to be good and to succeed. The staff is kind and welcoming, and it’s clear the whole family is putting in a lot of effort. Unfortunately, the pizza just isn’t good — there’s no way around it.
I’ve given it two tries and sampled three different pies: the margherita, their fig specialty, and the Hawaiian. All of them were barely edible. The ingredients seem low-quality, the cheese and crust are overly thick, and the flavors are off. Dried herbs are sprinkled on top rather than blended into the sauce, and the arugula is baked into the pie rather than added fresh as a light topping.
I’d really encourage the team to study great wood-fired pizza — maybe visit Milestone Pizza at South Farms on Thursday nights or Pizzeria Marzano in Torrington. There’s a lot of potential here with the right changes.
Edit after owner response: your response indicates a stubbornness and inability to take feedback. What local farm are you buying pineapple, figs, tomatoes and chicken from? Your idea of “local” and “high quality” are different from mine. I’ve spoken to a number of other locals and they all said the same thing. I wish...
Read moreJust moved to town this week with my family, and I was looking for a pizza place nearby. The website said "90-second" pizza's, so I figured showing up exactly 10 mins before close at 7:50pm would be ok. Wrong. The second I pulled in alone and got out of my car at 7:50pm tonight 9/11/25 to order a couple quick pizza's, someone went and locked the door. I was 3 feet from the step to the door, and then she turned off the "Open" sign right in my face. I still tried the door, but it was obviously locked. I stood in the window for 5-10 seconds and there was around 5 workers in there and they all kept their backs to me in the window. Pretty blatant and rude if you ask me. Even it they weren't "90-second" pizzas and they took 15-20 mins, this is not the type of new business in a small town worth driving 35 mins roundtrip to support if they're willing to lock the door and shut the sign literally in my face prior to close, then keep their backs to me so they don't have to even acknowledge I was there at all. All set won't be going back because of that stunt. I'll drive the 55 mins roundtrip to Domenic's and Vinnie's...
Read moreI'm sorry I really wanted to rate this new mom and pop business highly. I cannot. We ordered a large cheese pizza the other day. It was ridiculously small! 8 small slices! One person could have easily eaten the whole pizza, maybe two. There was very little red sauce although there was lots of cheese. I have never seen a "large" pizza so small (except for the frozen ones you buy) and no, it was not a medium size. The lady did not give me a medium size by mistake, so do not use that as an excuse. The ticket said large and so did the receipt. We were very disappointed. Back to Pepes we go. You are no comparison. At Pepe's a large pizza feeds our family! I'm sad to write this review but I have to be honest. I strongly suggest if you want to make it in this business you need to make a large pizza the standard large, and use red sauce. All and all the pizza was of...
