There is no âselfâ to Self Checkout anymore.
01/04/2025:
The store itself is pretty clean but I have a problem with the constant rearranging of items. It forces you to go down ever isle or ask an employee and 9/10 they donât know either because the placement has changed. . .AGAIN.
Today I went in and had to take my time AGAIN trying to find simple items like chocolate chips (which use to be down by the freezer era but moved somewhere else). I had already planned for that to happen so I came with extra time but once I got done with my shopping I opted for SELF Checkput. Emphasis on the âSELFâ part of Self Checkout.
I went up there with a family member who also had their order in the same cart as me. Weâd just walked up to our SELF CHECKOUT register when a lady comes speeding up to us and asks us is it together or separate. We explain that itâs separate as Iâm scanning my membership card in (and giving her the items we decided against) and as soon as I do that she starts scanning our items for us. Mind you, this section is called âSELFâ checkout not âanother person will check you out checkoutâ and itâs not a regular lane either. If I wanted that Iâd have went to a regular lane.
Then she just stands there waiting for me to pay.
The part about SELF checkout that I like the most is that 1: itâs SELF checkout meaning âIâ (me, myself and I) check MYSELF out and 2: I can look at the items in my cart and decide what I want to get BEFORE they are scanned so as to not need to call an attendant over to ask me questions on why I scanned an item I donât want.
THOSE TWO ARE KEY POINTS TO SELF Checkout.
Now I feel rushed and forced to buy the items even though I was trying to make sure I stayed within budget and WHAT DO YOU KNOW some items were incorrectly priced which took my $65 estimate up to $87. Had I rushed myself like the lady was trying to Iâd have missed that mistake.
Annoyed, the lady calls over a manager who then tells them to suspend my order while they go check the prices. That means Iâm now stuck waiting for god knows how long until they can confirm or deny the incorrect pricing.
Turns out the items were in the wrong place. During the wait we do checkout the second order which comes up fine but while waiting I ask them if this is something that they normally do and with attitude I get âdo what?â And I ask again âis checking people out in self checkout normal?â And again I get attitude and a âI donât know what you meanâ UMMM LADY I DONT KNOW HOW ELSE TO ASK IT THE QUESTION IS VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD.
Seeing the attitude the lady is giving me, the family member next to me has to step in and distinguish the attitude with a laugh and saying EXACTLY WHAT I JUST SAID to get an answer.
Finally we get an answer but the lady doesnât address me again, itâs the family member next to me that gets that answer.
Look Costco, maybe itâs because Iâm in my 20s and the family member next to me was in their 60s that i was spoken to rudely while my family member wasnât but thatâs unacceptable to me. Already Samâs Club is cheaper and they keep their items in set locations year around but now youâve got them beating you in FRIENDLINESS?
Iâve already decided not to renew my membership and I donât think Iâll be going back for the remaining time my membership lasts for.
And for those wondering: Costco is $2-$4 more than Samâs on almost any average product. Even their bulk eggs were more expensive than Krogers (buying two 12 packs instead of a 24 pack. The estimate at krogers was $5.49 but Costco sells theirs for $6.89 or something around that price.) if you take quality into affect with their fresh foods then maybe itâs worth the extra few dollars but not their boxed/frozen foods and...
Read moreI purchase dryer online bought this item month ago after research I decided to go with Costco for the 2 year warranty and for the removal of my old dryer. I went with gas dryer on the day the dryer was delivered I must say it was not pleasant the guys sent came and delivered but left in our foryer and when I asked for the removal of my old dryer was told they wouldn't remove. I was so confused I reached out to customer service spoke with one of agents who was so kind to listen to my issue after I went through what I thought was to happen the agent agreed she apologized for what happened and informed me she would reach out to manager for delivery and also sent 25.00 gift voucher for the trouble. It wasn't 15 min when she called me back to let me know they would send them back to remove my old dryer the kit that was purchased was not needed as our handyman had what was needed to hook up dryer to gas line so she refunded money back to us for inconvenience and that I would hear from delivery manager I was so pleased with how fast she communicated with me. Next thing I received call from Elite Solutions delivery manager who asked exactly what happened and he apologized and promised not to send the same guys to remove he even spoke with his district manager Chris who personally called and spoke to us to apologize and ensure that our dryer would be removed he went in detail on how the delivery process experience is to happen so in future it may not happen again. Chris even went the extra mile and placed a voucher Costco card in mail for the trouble even though he didn't have to. By time it was afternoon I received phone call and text when guys were on the way I wasn't home but my father was there and he said things went perfectly as planned George and his teammate remove the old dryer and even ask if he needed help with hooking up the new one and yo make it better George reached out personally called me to inform me all has been taking care of and apologized again for how things went that morning. I must say I have never been treated so well and please with my purchase! I thank you customer service for such prompt service I thank you Chris for being kind and villigant with my issues and solving the problem and thank you George for going the extra mile in calling and helping my father it means a lot hard to find kind people in the world and Costco showed up and showed out with showing care and compassion to my family if I need to make another big purchase I will make it with Costco and as for my dryer it's working and gets my clothes dry within good amount of time and it's super quite I give my review 5...
Read moreCostco Mt. Juliet has hit an all time low. There was a senior citizen female who was in the store to purchase something for the first time, so she was new to the place. She was not a member and had received a gift card from a member to see what Costco was all about. She was purchasing a non-food item & food items and the total exceeded the gift card amount. She was going to pay the balance due with food stamps but the cashier guy told her she could not purchase anything and had to use the gift card to become a member (a lie and seeming coercion). She knew that was untrue because of what she had seen on their website and said that she had called and spoke with a woman in the office who checked with a manager & confirmed she could do that. He still attempted to coerce her to buy a membership. She offered to tell him the name of the woman she spoke with but he said he did not want the name and that the people in the office don't know what goes on in the warehouse (another lie & did he really think that she would believe that the person answering the phone would give fake information and know nothing about what goes on there?). Then he told her that the balance due would have to be paid in cash (another lie). He then, with her insistence that he was not telling her the truth, told her he'd have to check with a manager but then took all her items off the conveyor belt and away from the cash register, all the while broadcasting her personal information about how she was wanting to pay for it with food stamps. All of that ate up probably 30 minutes of her time. How they treated her was mind-bending, unacceptable, and despicable. They did nothing to make it up to her for how poorly they treated her, gave false info., and wasted so much of her time. They should have treated her with respect, kindness, honesty, and even given her a free gift card or free merchandise or something. We actually saw her later on and found out she's a neighbor of ours and Costco did nothing for her. Ironically we also were checking out what Costco was like. Now we know and we will not become members. And the price for people who live alone, therefore cannot share a membership, is ridiculous and unfair. Charging a single person the same price as what an entire family would pay seems unfair and a great way to...
