We just stopped; pulled over for a few minutes. I stepped out of the car to stretch my legs. "Suppose to be able to see Mt. S haste from here, huh?" I looked around, and lo and behold, was Mt. Shasta.
The mountain was still a goodly way off, so the mountain was still relatively small. It was then that I realized what was wrong with this picture. Whoever who had designed the pullout, had selected the wrong location, or the wrong direction. The vista view was looking out one way, but one had to traverse the entire length of the pullover to the "end" of the pullout to see the view. Not only that, but it appeared through a somewhat narrowed opening--between a mountain on the left, and trees on the right. It just looked into gruess. Not that it was a terrible view, as a matter of fact I like the view of Mount Shasta. I just think everyone else's description has been a bit overblown. There are much better views of Mount Shasta then here at this location. The best thing about this vista is that I could...
Read moreThe only good thing about this "vista point" is that you don't have to take any detours to reach there. (It is right on the shoulder of I5 North)
I spent maybe 3 minutes here and was regretting the stop considering there is no decent viewing angle except that you can see the peak (its quite far from here). No restrooms (or at least I couldn't find one). There is a small bench but that's about it. Oh yes, there are some fun and interesting facts mentioned about the peak, hence the 3 stars. If you are driving up I5 North, there are other better locations to stop for a view of the beautiful mountain. Skip this unless you need a break...
Read moreA little disappointing. It is simply a pull off on Interstate 5 and a few interpretive markers. All well and good, but the view of Mt. Shasta - one of the most beautiful sights on our planet- is quite distant. I suppose it is a perfectly good stop if you are in a hurry, and there are stunning, magnificent views in Mt. Shasta City a few miles further North. Not too far further North There is a small airport (I think for fire fighting and rescue) that puts you as close as you will get without driving mountain roads. In any case, if you have not seen Mt. Shasta you are missing a true "bucket list" item you will...
