Top of the Mountain Computer Services is one of the WORST places to have your phone fixed.
In August of 2014, I dropped my iPhone 5 on the ground and shattered the screen. I was devastated, especially after I found out my insurance would only cover some of the cost of the phone and I would have to shell out $160 to have it fixed, so I searched the internet. There I found NEPAGeeks, located in Mountaintop. According to their directions, I was supposed to follow a particular road and ‘if I saw the red and yellow sign I had gone too far’. I drove up to the location but even with GPS I found it difficult to find, so I stopped at TOP of the Mountain Computer Services since I saw they had a sign for iPhone repair and had a red and yellow sign in the corner of their parking lot. When I asked if they were NEPAGeek they admitted they were not but they charged the same price and did the same thing, so I just stayed there. I should have followed my gut and left knowing that they were skimming off another company’s customers, but I had them fix my phone anyway.
A couple days later I try to make a call on my phone and suddenly my phone is flipping out. It’s trying to FaceTime people I’m talking to, it’s dialing numbers randomly, and putting people on speaker. As it turns out, Top of the Mountain did something to the proximity sensor in the phone that turns the screen off when you talk. I drove back up and they fixed the problem, apologizing.
When I got home, I realized the Home button was not working properly now and sticking. I messaged them and once again they apologized. They had to order a new home button in (claiming that they hadn’t done anything with the home button and didn't, in fact, break it, but they did it for free anyway). I drove up again to have them fix it.
While in the waiting room, another girl was there to have her phone fixed. It was her 6TH TIME THERE. She, too, went in to fix her broken screen and since she had problems with her home button, sound, etc. I ended up asking for a refund or some compensation because they obviously had no idea what they were doing. They claimed that we were the only two with problems.
As my boyfriend was driving me home, I discovered a pixel in the middle of the screen was dead. Too frustrated with them to drive back, I figured I’d deal with it.
A couple months later, my phone screen cracks again. Not like before, I didn't drop it. It was just cracked, starting at the home button. I ended up finding a guy closer (and cheaper) living near me that also fixed phones. I took the phone to him and when I went to pick it up, he asked ‘Who fixed your phone before?’ It turns out, they did an even worse job then I could have ever imagined.
The screen cracked because Top Of The Mountain lost two screws from the bottom of the phone that helps hold the screen in place and it bumped the home button so many times the screen just broke. Also, my home button (the one they replaced ‘for free’) was installed SIDEWAYS at a 90 degree angle. And the button was a cheap knock-off, it didn’t have the fingerprint technology it was supposed to.
Also, the mount that keeps my camera in place (which is near the proximity sensor) was broken as well.
So, unless you want your phone to me broke even worse than it already is, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PHONE TO TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN...
Read moreSorry to say, had a bad experience with this business. After having a screen replaced on an iPad it didn't work properly. We were told to update operating system. Still didn't work properly. Returned iPad to them to check out. After some time and no call from them I called to check on iPad. Was told at that time the screen was cracked and needed to be replaced. I know we didn't take it up there with a crack, (they just replaced the screen)was told the best he could do was a 15.00 discount on another screen which would then cost 205.00. I went to pick up my iPad and was told by employee they are not responsible for cracked screens. This was an obvious crack, I called to express my disbelief as to the fact that had we handed it to them in this shape I would have been obvious at that time yet was not mentioned or put on the work form...He hung up on me. When I got home and looked at the iPad closer there was a mark where this crack started. I lifted the tempered glass screen saver and in fact The screen WAS NOT CRACKED just the screen saver. Am so glad I took back our iPad. people beware. Take pictures of your items before you hand them in for repair. Will not be returning to...
