It is known for picturesque rock formations and stunning waterfalls. This park has some mesmerizing views of the shoreline in addition to the picturesque rock formations, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. There are many waterfalls namely Chapel Falls, Miners Falls, Mosquito Falls, Sable Falls, Bridalveil Falls, etc. Other fascinating places within the park include Sand Point, Chapel Rock, Chapel Creek, Chapel Beach, Grand Portal Point, Lover’s Leap, Beaver Lake, View of Lake Superior, etc. In addition to above attractions, park also offers activities such as camping, kayaking, hiking, bird watching, boat tours, etc. There is parking available at Chapel basin parking lot. There is a 5 mile unpaved road. Please drive slowly and carefully. Also ensure you have sufficient fuel in your vehicle. The trail is a 10 mile long loop called Chapel Loop and includes attractions namely Chapel Falls, Chapel Rock, Chapel Beach, Grand Portal, Lover’s Leap, Indian Head, Mosquito Beach, Mosquito Falls. Not all part of the trail is easy. Some part of it involves steep uphill and downhill hiking, covered under water and slippery during rainy season, and some very close to the shore. Carry some food and lots of...

This was my first time visiting pictured rocks and I was disappointed that our cruise cancelled because of the weather. We weren’t able to reschedule because of our itinerary and all the other times sold out. This would be 5-star worthy if you could take in the formation from land AND shore. But with that being said, it was still worthy of a short little walk to get a peek at pictured rocks from a top down view. The winds were high, but it was a beautiful day and the views we could see were pretty amazing. I would definitely recommend trying to see this beautiful formation from the water if at...

Awesome place. No words to explain the beauty of this place. My best suggestion for you would be go for trek first to the mosquito Chappel place. It’s a good 3hr trek 2 ways. Later be there in pictured rocks by evening and don’t forget to pre book your seats on sunset cruise. There is a place to enjoy the sunset (I have not explored this option but some people were watching sunset from the rocks). Take some water and light snacks along. There are lot of mosquitos in the forest and you will get irritated while trekking. Hat, long sleeves and pants are...

The scariest thing happened just SECONDS after I finished taking this video— a kayak-sized chunk of rock broke off from the cliff about 40 yards from us, tumbling down the cliff face and landing we would’ve been just a minuet later. The cliff broke with a loud popping sound and gave almost no warning, but after that we stayed a LOT farther away from the cliffs than we were here. I’ve paddled this stretch of shore a handful of times and had never seen a rockfall before, and even with three summers guiding/expedition paddling the sandstone cliffs of the Apostles had never once seen a rock fall there— I guess I’d incorrectly assumed the Pictured Rocks would be the same! One of the biggest risks in the outdoors, especially among people with a decent amount of experience, is assuming because you have expertise in one area it applies to another— both Andy & I have years of paddling experience in the Apostle Islands and on the North Shore, but that experience isn’t always perfectly transferable to other bodies of water and areas. This rockfall was definitely a big wake up call & a reminder to ALWAYS research the area and learn about the risks, even if you’ve paddled there before, and even if you consider yourself experienced. #picturedrocks #kayaking #lakesuperior #puremichigan #paddling #seakayak #exploremore #michiganders #upperpeninsula #exploremichigan #munising

Towering multicolored sandstone cliffs give this park its name, but Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has even more to offer than these beautiful views. The park is open year-round and is truly a four-season recreation destination with hiking, canoeing, kayaking, lighthouse tours, birding, backcountry and drive-in camping, fall color viewing, ice climbing, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing...and more. 📌 Save this post for tips on visiting the first of the National Lakeshores established (in 1966). 🗺 Located along the southern shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this park preserves 42 miles of shoreline. There are visitors centers at each end of the park. ⛴The western side of the park is the most popular. Lake Cruises (available from mid-May to mid-October) depart from Munising and allow you to experience the beautiful pictured rock cliffs, sea caves and the restored historic lighthouse on Grand Island. The parks best known waterfall (Munising Falls) is only 800 feet from the visitor’s center of the same name. 📸 Miners Castle Overlook is the only place in the park where you can view the Pictured Rocks from an easily accessible overlook. The scenic view is definitely worth a stop, but do expect to see it with a crowd of other visitors. 🛶Definitely make time to visit the parks eastern side where visitors are fewer and you’ll find beautiful forest hikes, peaceful lakes to kayak and some of the most pristine Lake Superior Beaches to explore. . . . . #family #familytravel #travel #nationalpark #nationallakeshore #picturedrocks #michigan #up #upperpeninsula #upperpeninsulamichigan #travelwithkids #traveltips #travelguide #outdoorswithkids #outdoors #getoutside
