7-2025. Played FM today ..so update from last review. First - still one of the best courses in NE Ohio. Senior Green Fees during week with cart are $41…which is a great deal but actually seems too cheap (the course has to make a profit !!!). Greens were excellent ! Bunkers had been attended to and were in good shape. Fairways are having some issues (disease ??) …see picture. We played threesome with 7:30 am tee time and never saw the 7:20 group nor were we pushed from behind (my group is not fast). Saw many signs of the course being “worked on” so appreciate the efforts of ownership to keep this classic up and running. Hope the fairways can be “recovered” under more cooperative weather conditions.
7-23. Updating from my review below… Friend and I played FM yesterday. Early tee time. Weekday Sr rate is beyond reasonable. Gentlemen in shop was friendly and helpful. Owners of FM clearly trying to improve the course conditions, eg noticed that big proportion of the cart paths had been repaved. Greens and fairways were great. Tee boxes good, bunkers improved and mostly good. So thanks to FM ownership for making the effort to save and improve this gem. This is one of the best golf courses in the state and we are lucky to have it in NE Ohio. PS ..we were early 2 Somme and played in less than 3.5 hrs
If only…… This is one of the best golf courses in NE Ohio. The Pete Dye design with the Lake / River nines are amongst the best one could hope to play anywhere. Certain aspects of the conditioning are excellent, eg the greens and fairways are really good and tee boxes are ok to good. This suggests the head superintendent is knowledgeable and giving a great effort (so thank you). BUT, other aspects of the conditioning and maintenance of the course and property are in dire need of investment, in particular the cart paths and bunkers. Also, there is no attempt whatsoever to maintain planting beds, etc. (eg 13, 15 tee boxes )as these are full of weeds and overgrown. Also Pete Dye loved to use railroad ties in his design features and these, being 40 years old, are shot along with many of the bridges, etc. I’d presume the course could easily absorb a strong seven figure ($$$$$) capital injection but am empathetic to ownership’s capacity to justify same. But surely some cold patch to fill in the worse of the cart path pot holes would be a well received investment of time and effort. Bottom line, a true gem of a golf course (and well worth playing) but in dire need of investment which I hope ownership can find some way to realize as this course is (or was ?) a true gift to the world of golf in general and NE Ohio golf...

I reviewed this top rated Donald Ross Cleveland Municipal GC on an October afternoon when only ten rounds were played
From the turbo like tug of the new golf carts, and into the Audubon Society recognized "Lake" 9, Fowler's Mill is filled with shot making thrills and places a premium on middle irons to neatly groomed greens. The second shots into the par fours can be between two hundred (200) and one hundred sixty five (165) yards.
The Sixth is the #1 Handicap Hole and plays longer than irs 438 yards from the Gold tees . It is the most pleasing to the eye. Your tee shot must draw across the lake to a wide open fairway, and then your second shot darts across the lake again to a large green. Lake winds in autumn are a definite factor. The views to the horizon are splendid and giant fallen oaks dot the fairway borders. Fowler's Mill is a work in tremendous care for the wetlands, and vegetation! The staff was most knowledgeable and accommodating of our review time. The course host many high school tournaments in September and October, so be sure to phone ahead for availability.
I think what I most appreciate about Fall golf in Northeastern Ohio is the seriousness of the municipal golfers who know in their bones that the gentle October lake breezes will soon shift to December and its full array of wintry and snowy blasts. But, with little time for self pity, the patrons whale away at the final gasps of pristine weather, with their only speck of hope that a winter golf trip might be...
Read moreLast time I came here (96), the course was very young but still tough and beautiful. It had a double wide trailer for a club house. Now it has a beautiful clubhouse and the course is still tough as can be. Greens were fast but did hold. Rough was lush but not overbearing. Most of the bunkers were in great shape and sand was still good quality bunker sand. I did notice that some of the fairway bunkers were unkept, I'm guessing either letting them grow over or turning them into waste bunkers? There were a ton of trees that were down from the recent tornado that went through. This did open up a couple of the holes. Emphasis is still set on a good drive to score well here, usually not a lot of trouble on drives. Greens well guarded, large, and fast. Once we teed off we never saw another group of golfers until we were done. Pete would be very happy with the state of the course today. I do miss all the railroad ties that once were all over the course. The only negative thing I can say about my visit, was that there was an elderly gentleman in the clubhouse where we checked in and he was not very friendly to our group. I've raved to my friends for years about this course, and the first impression they got was of this unhappy person treating us like we were a bother, however the rest of the staff we came across was fantastic and we all had a great day! Totally recommend this to all golfers. Just an fyi this is not an easy course that you can over power. Thanks for giving us a great...
