I grew up drinking Vale Wood Farms milk. Thus Vale Wood was a name that I was thoroughly familiar with in the early 1980s as a child. Strangely enough, until today, I had no idea precisely where they were located. And I had never thought to visit the place. But a chance opportunity had me set foot on the farms for the first time today. And what I witnessed was a great exhibition of dairy farm excellence. And also on display was the highest pedigree of Pennsylvania agricultural heritage. They have a creamery/store on site where they offer their own great brand of ice cream. I tried the raspberry truffle combo and it was excellent. And I actually requested they put a scoop over a blueberry muffin that I had also purchased from their store. After tasting their offerings I would rank Vale Wood Farms ice cream fresher and better than any national chain. And, previously, I tried their specialty/gourmet line of ice cream about a year ago. That one I bought from a local meat market distributor. And I was impressed then ……as I was today. In addition Vale Wood Farms is a great place for public or private school/scholastic field trip bookings. Here they have expert staff, personnel and wonderful dairy workers educate the children about dairy farming and the process of getting the dairy products from farm to market. They call it “From MOO to YOU” which, again, is their long time educational statement to the children.

Always a great time and a definite must stop in fall. We've been to most of the local pumpkin patch/farms around the Johnstown area. Valewood by far is and always has been our family fav for years. Theres lots of little activities for the kids, Hayrides, face painting, ice cream, corn box etc... It never sems overly crowded either. A perfect little day trip that doesnt cost a ton of money! Also a great setting for those gorgeous family fall photos your trying to capture. Love this place.

A great stop for ice cream, dairy products or ice tea. This spot actually hosts community events that include games, tours of the factory, hayrides, live music, food trucks and local vendors. I like the fact that their ice cream selection routinely changes, and they you can get Tiny Winnie size for $1 which allows trying many flavors. We love the honeycomb ice cream, whisky walnut ice cream, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Their regular cottage cheese is also great

How can one not give a local farm with an on-site creamery 5 stars? 😀

We were on a trip to the south west part of PA, and found Vale Woods Farms was not too far off our route, so we had to stop by.

After winding thru a few back roads, we came upon the farm. No less than 20 milk delivery trucks lined the back of the parking lot...they are serious about their milk!

The grounds are well kept, and set up to handle a large group. The store itself is not overly large, and does not have any indoor seating, but there is plenty of room for the milk and ice cream!

As for the ice cream...smooth and not overpowering with flavors. Oh...and flavors...not just your run of the mill basic selections...how does jalapeño or sweet potato sound? All I can say is don't knock it until you have tried it!

So, if you find yourself on the area looking for something unique and delicious, drop by Vale Woods Farms...you will be...

Last year I made my first visit to Johnstown to see a friend who had recently moved. She had fallen in love with Vale Wood's offerings, so we went out to the farm store. I had a dish with 3 big ol' scoops of ice cream and polished them off so quickly it blew my mind. Never did I feel bloated or full - and that has to speak to the quality of their products. We made another trip out today, and I got some mini scoops to try various flavors. They were all fantastic - esp the blueberry cheesecake. The service is as good as what they sell, the prices are reasonable. What's...
