Cornerstone Nashville — Local services in Nashville-Davidson

It is Christmas time and as I reflect on the year, I am revisiting my short lived experience at Cornerstone earlier this year. My family and I attended regularly for a few months hoping to become closer to God and find a community of good people in which we might be able to build connections and friendship. At first, it was a novel experience with the charismatic pastor and high production worship music, but when that waned, there was not much real spiritual substance to be found. We did a community volunteer day with some other members and was the one of the least purposeful days I have spent "helping" others. And a couple of the members we volunteered with were unsavory characters that gave me a bad feeling. One of the other volunteer missions was actually outsourced to a Catholic organization, so it wasn't even Cornerstone's ministry.

The worst experience was when we left our toddler in their care during service and he was badly bitten by another child. We weren't even told who the child or their family was that harmed our child. I know if my child did something like that, I would want to personally apologize to the child and parents. It left me feeling deeply upset.

I understand that church can be a place of strength and healing for people battling addiction, but Cornerstone seemed to cate to those people. Also the sermons began to come off as manipulative and repetitive.

I tried, I really tried to get into it, but it actually began to pull me away from God. It felt so superficial. The pastor wore some pretty trendy, teenage style outfits that detracted from being able to take him seriously. I prefer my spiritual leaders to be more subdued I guess, or at least not trying so hard to look hip. More of the politician type- gladhanding and feigning concern was my impression. I guess that is part of the job, but it was all so impersonal and maybe that is just the mega church, Pentecostal brand. It just isn't for me or my family. It is only now that I am beginning to reaffirm the faith I had before attending this church, because when we left I had pretty much rejected belief in Jesus. I also resent that they never uttered a word about the Holy Mother, who has been integral in my personal faith. I have gotten so much more out of watching The Chosen than attending this church. The pastor for sure delivers the word. God can use anyone. Most churches these days are turning into entertainment centers rather than a true place of God. Nowadays the main focus is gaining more members to gain more finances. If they would focus on just saving souls and bringing people to Jesus God will do the rest. But clearly they don’t trust God to do it.

Manipulation is used with great singing and certain ways the pastor says things to make people want to give. To be honest this church is worldly in my opinion. Anytime u have secular music playing in the church parking for so called kids fun night is crazy to me. Or anytime u have a child performing in an Elvis costume on a Sunday for a so called Christmas play is very reckless and irresponsible.

Again manipulating the kids to make it a fun place but disrespecting God at the time . Any church is Gods house NOT yours and it should be treated as such! God knows who’s just playing church and who’s not. Whoever is playing church manipulating people to give misguiding the youth. If you’re just sitting and watching this foolery,

The Pastor and Congregation will be held accountable. By the way in the Bible it says women and young girls should dress modestly but u almost never hear pastors teaching that either. U will feel Gods wrath sooner than u think if u don’t wake up instead of going with the flow because you’re comfortable where u are. I pray that u change before it’s too late in the name of Jesus.!
