We have been wanting to shop this antique store but miss the chance every visit we’ve come to Iowa. Today we had the opportunity and we were sorely disappointed! The store itself is well organized and the displays are great but Cindy was not. I kindly requested to look at a crock in a display, she was busy visiting, had her hands full so she asked the gentleman working with her to assist. He was very kind, showed it to me and then promptly took it up front to remove an older tag from the inside. I waited for him to come back with it but Cindy had it in her hand, I said, “over here,” and she said “that’s fine I’m taking it home, it matches one I have.” Guess she was not interested in making a sale. Then my husband found a tall cake cloche (with plate) he was interested in but not marked with a price. I walked up front and kindly asked if we could please get a price. Cindy said yes and as I was trying to point her towards my husband as he was waiting by the item, she said you’re going to have to show me where it is and then proceeded to tell me there were others already priced. I said, “we saw those but they aren’t what he’s looking for.” She said, “Well I don’t know what the price is, I’m using it in a display and it comes with the plate.” I said “We understand that it’s a set but would like a price.” She again tried to push us toward a different item and said “this one over here has a price and doesn’t have a plate.” Again I said, “That’s not what he’s looking for, he wants the taller cloche.” My husband asked “May I get the price please?” She said, “If you can be nice I can get a price but it’s going to be expensive.” So did we not look good enough to make a purchase in her store? She walked out the front door and we have no idea where or what she was doing. At this point we felt like it wasn’t worth waiting to find out where she was going. But seriously, who does that? Takes one item I wanted to buy and says she’s taking it home and then tells us the second item is going to be expensive and walks out her business door-without telling us what she...
Read moreI found this store on the side of the road while traveling for work.
The store is laid out very well and the staff greeted me on the way in.
I found several pieces that I was quickly excited about and when Cindy noticed my hands were full, she quickly took them to the register to hold.
There was a very good selection of Pyrex at really good prices. One piece I wanted didn’t have a tag and when I brought it up to the register, Cindy took a few minutes to research and came up with a very reasonable price. My mother is thrilled with her new dish.
This store also had a pink bubble bowl that I had been searching stores for a very long time. It was a very exciting find and again at a reasonable price. While I was happily inspecting the bowl, I caught sight of another one. It was locked up in a cabinet and the key was missing.
The staff went through key rings and a box full of keys to find one that worked. I didn’t mind waiting as they worked on the lock, which they did find. And I was able to purchase both of these bowls.
If I ever have an opportunity to be in the area again, I will definitely be...
