Fort Falls — Local services in Nebraska

We really enjoyed seeing Fort Falls! It's a nice little hike to the falls, might not be a bad idea to wear bug spray. The falls are just beautiful & then we hiked a little further down to the niobrara river. Who knew anything like this existed in NE! The walk back to the car is all uphill. This is definitely a must-see. After the falls we drove around the sanctuary to check out the wildlife. We saw bison & prairie dogs. A nice little walk down to the falls, well worth taking. We almost missed this little gem, but so glad we saw reviews saying to go there. The walk is peaceful and most of it is shaded in summer. One thing to note is that you have to take steps down to the falls, and they are not paws friendly for your fur babies. I don't know what the proper name for them is, but they are grated and punched so the steps grip your shoes to keep from slipping. Awesome for people, but...

Lovely place but definitely bring bug spray. The mosquitoes were thick in the heavy brush. My 10yo was miserable and finally ran up to the car. It was a neat waterfall though and tons of dragonflies in Mid-July. Definitely make the stop if you are heading to Smith Falls from Valentine. It's...
