This place is great. I first heard about A&A when my Russian coworker friend said he wanted to show me what he calls "Aiyaiaika" because he doesn't understand the meaning of A&A. Anyway, the only other shooting range close by is the state park range, but they are nervous and obsessed with protocol there. A&A on the other hand, is different. First you drive all the way out to Amish land, up and down hills and hollers until you arrive at what seems to be a secluded valley. At the base of this valley is what appears to be some large homestead. This is in fact the great A&A. GPS shows the first driveway but the entrance is actually the second one with a sign.
Here is a central house that defaults as the office, simply walk up and tell them what you will shoot and for how long. Transaction occurs and that's it. A&A has many separate ranges in the woods, connected by gravel road that seems to have been shelled with what would be child-sized artillery. Drive slowly if you fear for the condition of your vehicle. Anyway, they have 100 yard range and 200 yard range. There is a restriction for what caliber where. You may put anything downrange and shoot at it, only glass is forbidden.
This is the true reason why A&A is different from their competitors, that they allow you to have fun and scape your range with objects. It's a pleasure to switch between long distance target shooting and close range objects at will. Totally recommend this place. Lastly, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the...
Read moreTo start, this place was a 5 star get-a-way for a shooter of all kinds. Greatest perk was that you could bring targets (Metal, stuffed animals.. pretty much anything you could think of except electronics and explosives) and shoot them up! With the new management, it has turned into a paper and pop can targets only range.. which to say the least is unamusing and a waste of the money given the time driven .. when it all boils down. Though my choice to not return is only partial to half to about half to do with that. I had went over the weekend that just passed & was greeted by the "Golf cart Security" personel to find that his god like complex was too frustrating when i was at the 100 yard range. It wasnt mentioned at the front that there was a strong "no-garbage" policy or any for that matter, i asssume anthing that isnt paper, & the man who represented the place was talking down to me for having my targets out there. Instead of calmly letting me know that i couldnt do that, he spoke to me with such disrespect that I couldnt help but pack my stuff up and leave. Wouldve gave one but my fond memeories of how it used to be stopped me.
Pros- Outdoor and Family Owned
Cons- Poor managment, lack of versitility, No place to buy, outdated and the...
Read moreTheir website says they are open from 8 am - 4 pm on Sundays. I arrived at 8:25 am on Sunday and was told there was a 1.5-hour wait for one range and a 2-hour wait for the other range. From what I could tell, there was some sort of group shoot or league about to start, and it appears that everyone knew each other, so my assumption is that this has been occurring for quite a while. This would be nice to know prior to driving 1 hour to use their range.
Why wouldn't you post on your website that, yes, you are open, but 25 minutes after you open, you will already be full due to league shooting? This is the 2nd time I've tried to shoot here, only to be told it would be a 1.5 - 2 hour wait. Will there be a 3rd try? Absolutely not. "Have a nice day," - said the lady at the counter to me as I walked away today.
Why, thank you, I did. I found an ODNR range 15 minutes away from your location. It's cheaper, they are open almost the same hours as you, and I was actually able to shoot and not have to wait or have a passive-aggressive comment said to me as I walked away after driving an hour to get...
