Fantastic staff. Well maintained course. Great layout. Very scenic, but NB Hills fatal flaw is the ridiculous green design. A good course for a golf outing with friends but not a good course for 'players'. Greens are a circus side-show and not a good test of golf skill. Truly takes the fun out of the game for people who want to score. With the exception of hole 5 there isn't a flat spot on any green. And its not even undulating... most greens are just a slippery slope from back to front. If you like being pin-high and having to play 6 feet of break on a 10-15 foot putt. You'll like NB Hills. There is a fine line between challenging and ridiculous. The greens at NB Hills are ridiculous. Obviously there is nothing they can do about the extreme slope of the greens. Its millions of dollars to renovate greens. But they should stop cutting the greens so tight to slow them down. That might help speed up play as well when everyone isn't 3 putting all day long. I'm a 5 handicap and I've played NB Hills hundreds of times over the last 5 year but this year only a handful. Realized how much more fun I have on other Waukesha County area courses where putting isn't so absurd. Pains me to say it as the staff here is so awesome but just a heads up for 'players' new to the area looking for a realistic challenging course. The greens here take any fun out of a round for those who are...
Read moreGolfed New Berlin Hills the week of Aug 3, 25'. About my 8th time playing there this year. The condition of a number of greens is horrendous. Especially #1. Badly burned out with no repair underway. The sand traps are either cement hard, and or full of large stones and pebbles. Rake them yourself please. Edging around traps has clover growing high, just as it did this spring. No action taken this year to define the edging of the traps. Ground under repair areas were marginally marked, and the repair attempt, which has been going on for a while, shows no improvement. Any play after early morning and you best shot won't hold on most any green. But, your ball will bounce nicely. The course layout is a rather attractive design and plays well for amateur's, as it is roomy. Fairways are in nice shape. I find the greens repetitive slope from the back to the front rather boring, as this repeated on nearly all the holes. In general, the course has gone backwards in upkeep and condition the past few years. Staff is always friendly and accommodating in my experience. The clubhouse staff, servers, and cart girls, are some of the best employees I have...
Read moreJust played on Sunday, September 28th at 8:24AM. As soon as I rolled in my putt on 18, I went right to the cart to check the exact time of the round; it was 1:35PM. Don't scratch your eyes, you are reading that correctly. A 5 hour and 10 minute round on a Sunday morning. I understand it is a Sunday and a 4 hour and 30 minute round may be expected so I was patient but I couldn't help but have to ask the ranger to see if he can help speed things up by talking to the group a few groups ahead of me. He said, "Its a beautiful Sunday, this is how it is." I then told the head guy by the cart drop off after the round that I am the 8:24AM tee time and am just returning the cart now and his response is, "Wow thats a long day!" They did not seem to care about the slow pace of play. 8 minute tee time intervals ruin the course and not only that, but I watched a scramble fundraiser filling up the back 9 as I was on the 4th green to congest the course up even more!! I nearly lost it. Needless to say, I just played my last round ever at this establishment which is unfortunate as I have played here...
