Latham-Whitehurst Nature Park — Local services in New Bern

Great experience with nature and bird watching, but I pick up a lot of ticks if I go during spring and summer. Summer also be prepared for mosquitoes, yellow flies Et al. I have never seen a snake here, but presume they could be anywhere in wilderness areas such as this. I have seen Wild Turkey with poults crossing into the woods right next to the parking lot! Beautiful view of Upper Broad Creek after an easy and short hike. Good fishing opportunity if you're looking for a spot. For birders there can be a surprising number of migrants and winter species, but the main attractions, in my opinion, are the spring breeders. One of the best sites outside of the Croatan NF for Wood Thrush, Yellow-throated and Red-eyed Vireo, and many Warblers. One of the few places a Kentucky Warbler might breed in Craven County. Peaceful park. Great for a quiet walk. There are short paths and longer paths right out to the boardwalk, canoe launch, and bird observation platform.

Pets are welcome.

Paths are natural, have some roots, and are flat.

There are restrooms at the entrance and near the boardwalk (the far end).
