Michigan Welcome Center — Local services in New Buffalo Township

Very nice welcome/rest area. Ample parking. Good location. Vending machines (pepsi products) and snacks. There was an attendant there as well. This is one of the rest areas/welcome centers that have the shop/info center inside but it was closed when I stopped. Decently sized though. They have a ton of pamphlets, books etc on various areas in Michigan as well as different festivals, biking guides/maps, trail maps, boating guides and regulations etc. There are several picnic table and grill areas to use, a nice large grassy/treed space to just relax in. Dog run. There is a separate side for semi parking and it appears many stay the night at this location. The only negative I have would only apply to them and that is when I saw the sign right before the center that is supposed to let truckers know how many spots are still available for the night, I noticed it said 1 because I was wondering how that was going to work out since there were 3 semis nearby that looked to be interested in going there...one in front stopped and the other 3 kept going...BUT the number was WAY off. Not sure if that is normal or not but when I arrived just before dark, there were only 3 semis total there. It isn't a massive area like some of the others I've seen for semis but I would guess there are spots for at least 30 semis there. I know a lot of them look for these areas to rest in the evening and can't go the additional miles if they are close to their max for the day and it sucks to think some might have pulled over on side of highway instead of here bc of the error. Overall really nice upkept area though and it is right inside the Michigan border coming from...

If this is a Welcome Center to the state of Michigan it leaves something to be desired. I was asked to leave the building because I had a dog. This dog was not a pet it was a dog to Aid with a physical disorder. The janitor in the building that told me to leave since I obviously wasn't blind so it could not be a therapy dog of any type to Aid the handicapped. Furthermore, he said that because it didn't have the standard harness that you see with the blind, it could not be a disability dog. Even after I showed him my medical bracelets he's still harassed me.

Hey folks, guess what - just because you have your sight, have all your limba, or are not in a wheelchair, does not mean you do not have a physical disability and require aid from an animal.

State of Michigan should do a better job of training their employees. First time I had to discuss my medical disorder with a janitor who is cleaning...

Really bad entry and exit ramps that cross paths and create dangerous situations trying to get in and out of this rest area. They really need to rework them.

It's cool having a state sign and the scale model light house to use for photos for tourists. Very help Welcome centre with lots of information in multiple locations within Michigan to visit.

For the size of the bathrooms, they really should have made a better layout, and 2 toilets in each bathroom is simply not enough. Especially when a couple tour busses roll in and you have 100 plus people waiting to use the bathroom on top of the dozens of people already on the property.

This beautiful property is completely ruined by bad planning and layout both road and parking design but building and resources as well. While this place is still functional, it is sometimes stressful and frustrating trying to get around on...
