My twin 15-year-olds went to Buck’s Rock Art Camp for the first time this past summer. The camp is in a beautiful, wooded area, with a wide variety of workshops in a village-like setting. Kids are given the independence to decide for themselves which workshops to attend throughout each day. I thought my kids would spend their time in drawing and painting and sculpture, but they were drawn to metalsmithing and woodworking (but there’s more than 25 workshops to choose from) and made some professional looking pieces. The experience overall was not only wonderful in terms of developing their skills and creativity, but also in terms of becoming independent – making choices for themselves about where they spent their time each day and what they made. They want to go back next year as CITs!

Our family was introduced to Bucks Rock over 2 years ago. When I initially looked into our daughter attending, I was quite leery of sending her to the East Coast (we live in Oregon) for two months to a place I had never visited. Little did we know then, this was the best decision we made for our daughter. She blossomed and continues to at Bucks Rock Summer Camp. She delved into theater, singing, song writing, web design, yearbook editing, jewelry making, glass blowing, making batiks, and found of love for playing her violin without my hassling. She was able to explore things no week long camp could provide which is what we normally scrambled to organize for summers. Our daughter refers to Bucks Rock as her home away from home where she feels most comfortable, confident, safe, talented and valued. She has confidence and a strong sense of independence that make us proud. As a business owner, many of my clients complain of their children being lazy and attached to their cell phones during the summer. I felt the opposite, knowing my daughter was happy, interacting with others her age, exploring their passions in art, music, performance and technology. Our daughter has just finished her first year as a CIT and is looking forward to summer 2018. Thank you Bucks Rock, especially Noah and...

This is a fantastic sleepaway summer camp for kids interested in the arts! My son participated in a half-summer session several years ago and had a wonderful time! It was his first time away from us for an extended period of time. We had full trust in the staff to take good care of him. Over the summer, he made great friends and participated in the theater, flameworking, music and metalsmithing/jewelry studios. He had private vocal lessons weekly with highly qualified instructor from New York City. The great thing about Buck's Rock is that kids can choose which studios to participate in. They could try various ones or just focus on a few, if they are particularly drawn to certain crafts. The structure is imposed by a wake up time and meal times. Otherwise, the kids can participate in whichever studios they want to. The setting in New Milford, CT is idylic and makes you feel like you've gotten away from the city, from school life, etc. Could not recommended it...

I brought my girls to camp for the first time and they absolutely loved it. But due to the fact they are on a mountain they did say it got cold at night. lol overall the administrative team especially the director, in a moment of an injury acquired at home before attending. He was more than attentive and make me feel at ease due to his communication. Aside he attended plays too. Everyone is good and nice. No complaints. It’s going back to nature in all the meaning of the word. It makes them humble and realize how life should be. Aside from freedom and independence and a whole lot of activities to do that are world wide jobs that will inspire their creativity. And also meet kids from around the world to your nearest city and town, to make lasting relationships. From all walks of life. I recommend it a 1000%. It’s worth the money if they make it worth...
