We joined the Vista Balloon Adventure for an early morning flight. We were quickly greeted and assigned to Timberline with Rod. The team quickly assembled the balloon and gave riders an opportunity to help. Rod gave a great instructions about what we needed to do and also made it clear that we would need to quickly load the balloon when the time came.
He explained the landmarks and what we were seeing and shared with us about his 40 years of experience piloting balloons.
Our ride was smooth, relaxed and we had the opportunity to dip our basket into the Willamette and pause there to watch the four other balloons dip, too.
Upon landing they helped people out of the balloon and then invited the group to help deflate and pack up the balloon and basket. Riders weren't required to help, but we volunteered and it was a good workout.... not easy to get the air out and the balloon back in it's bag but the team was fast and led the way.
Landing spots may be different based on the wind and weather conditions. Our landing was in a harvested field south of Newberg. It was very calm, no wind and the pilot was in contact with the chase crew, who were waiting for us when we arrived.
I received a gift certificate for my birthday, and it was easy to schedule. We actually changed dates from June due to a poor weather forecast. It was easy to do, and they were happy to make a change. It was a great gift!
It was a fun adventure and we received a sticker and poster to commemorate the day when we returned to the field. Highly...
Read moreSo much fun! I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our flight. I thought we'd be in a balloon with a few other people. We got there to a full parking lot. Six balloons were going up that morning! The weather was gorgeous. It was an extra nice thing for my husband as he was able to show me, from the air, the farms where each of his parents were raised. He couldn't get over how quiet it was up there. I discovered the pilot has lots more work to do to keep track of wind direction and whatever. They were all excellent. It was a fairly still day so he sat us right down on top of the Willamette River! As we rose from the river, drops of water splashed on to the balloon's reflection in the wate. I have pictures and videos. Oh, and the company is very organized. It was easy to check in, no confusion, lots of direction on finding "your" balloon. Many thanks to the volunteers that re the ground crew and chase crew. They have to figure out what farmer's field we will light in. I can't recommend this experience...
Read moreWow! What a great early morning adventure today! My 93 year-old mother-in-law told me a couple months ago that riding in a hot air balloon has always been a dream of hers. So I said "Let's do it!" The ride did not disappoint!
She was worried because she knew she could not climb into the basket. (She has trouble with steadiness, balance and walks with a cane.) We let them know of her needs and they took care of her. The crew was strong and helpful getting her into the basket. They brought a stool for her to sit on when she got tired of standing. (That was actually very handy while we waited for the launching of the balloon!) What a beautiful day and view from the peaceful calm of the sky! We were so impressed with Robert's piloting ability, obvious experience and felt very comfortable and safe. The landing was a soft touch down and it was fun helping the crew with the take down/put away.
Thanks Vista for making the dream...
