Alachua County Fair: 10/20/2017 Totally awful experience! False advertising: Went yesterday, since kids had day off and brought super saver ticket. They insisted no arm bands were to be distributed until 9 pm! That even with the super saver ticket i bought, I still wouldn't get the unlimited rides arm band and they refused to give me a refund. Even common sense didn't work. $15 super saver ticket.... admission $6 for adult and $2 for kids. Where's the super saving? Turned away!!! Also, people who had spoken to reps were told arm bands would be sold after 2 pm for $15. Still no go. Finally, elementary age kids with school ids were to be admitted for free. But WITHOUT advertising that arm bands would not be sold during hours of the rebate. I felt that this was an event to bamboozle people. Overpriced food & be wary of vendor "subjective" distribution of food: Between $4-6 for lemonade, with $3 refills $4 for a slice of pizza, that may be quite small...heard a lady who was informed that with the way the pizza is sliced, some pieces may well be half the size of others (evidently two of her's were equal to one slice that she showed the vendor, which was purchased separately and at a later time).
Unfair and truly NOT worth my going to for the...
Read moreGhost fairgrounds.Fake listing. Someone edited this location from NE 39th ave to here when Mayor Poe leased the original fairgrounds out for 99 years to the military. What did we gain? Nothing but losing the fair in its entirety, losing a home to Hogtown Festival, and more debt, yet no one wants to talk about it. Here we are though, middle of Newberry, another dumb decision of your elected officials, at the expense of the community, while the money DISAPPEARED along with the mayor! Good job avoiding accountability just like the previous mayor Hanharan's GRU 3 BILLION dollar "biofuel" plant, that burns 40+ trucks of trees a day! A review of the cities budget from an outside agency cant come...
Read moreEeehhhhhhhh. The grounds are lovely. The bathrooms could use maintenance. Door have neen broken and mismatched for years. They have what they CALL a handicap stall but it isn't. If you have a chair or large walker, you gotta have help and even then b you have to leave it outside the stall.
The barn area is spacious but I use the term barn extremely loosely. It's a covered outdoor area. It's big and not terrible looking.
Parking is a bit out of the way
Other than that, they are beautiful grounds and they serve...
