This is a great place to visit for several different types of activities.. This is a very popular insert point for canoers and kayakers who will go Downstream many miles to their pickup point. There are hundreds of acres here, so it's a great place to walk your dog, go for a walk, go for a jog, and there is even a historic graveyard on the property that used to belong to a mental institution that was in Chester County near by many, many, many years ago. from my recollection it was probably the early 1900s where the mental institution would take their deceased patients to rest. it's a very peaceful place, and a nice place to visit if you...

Nice preserve. A bit hot in summer as there is little tree coverage on the trails. Saw several deer, groundhogs and rabbits. The birds were too numerous to count. Stargazer Stone can be reached from a short trail located off the back of ChesLen Preserve on route 162. This stone marks the spot where astronomer and surveyor Mason and Dixon set up an obseratory which they used to in setting the Maryland and Pennsylvania boundary line. Lots of work being done to reverse the damage done by grazing cattle. If you have children be sure to visit Ollies Owl's Nature...

Overall: Beautiful, highly recommend for an enjoyable walk in the park.

Notables: The parking lot was full, but most of the time the walk was pleasantly private.

The rolling hills give a wonderful view as well as a bit of a workout compared to flat land.

There were some wooded portions, giving a bit of variation to the walk.

We walked there for maybe 5-6 hours and still didn't walk the entire park.

Will definitely come back for another afternoon stroll (and maybe...

Great Birdwatching. About 2/3 open, 1/3 wooded. Use tick spray, but we forgot ours and were fine. Easy, non-technical trails, but some decent elevation here. Great for spring/fall, but probably not as much in the heat of summer. Fyi, closed on Thursdays. Birds of the day: tree swallows, redwing blackbirds, brown headed cowbirds, common Yellowthroat, a nice yellow warbler (specific identity unknown), kingfisher, towhees, bluebirds.

I really liked this place due to being off the beaten path. There are tubing/kayaking companies that launch here, but you can still experience tranquility and seclusion if desired. There were a couple rope swings, a concrete pad to jump off of, and plenty of shallow waters for the young ones. The parking lot is right across the street and it is maybe a 5 minute walk max from car to water. I do recommend checking this place out.
