This course deserves the highest accolades for a public course. Rated as a top 5 course in Kansas, it is more than worth driving from afar to play here. We drove 2 hours, stayed the night after the round and enjoyed a course unlike many in the 3-state area. I've played in Kansas City, Oklahoma and Branson. This course is better than any public course in Oklahoma and matches up with the majority of Branson courses. It will remind you of St. Andrews in Kansas City, which is a popular course. Word of caution is to do your homework about the course, have GPS or pay attention to the one on the carts or have a yardage book handy. You will need it! Hole #2 is a perfect example with a green protected right by trees on a par 5. A waste area to navigate and just plain old precision required to reach in 3 for us weekenders. The rough is fescue which will kill distance if you hit it off the fairway. Sand traps don't really come in to play and the greens are in great shape despite recent maintenance. Only issues: (really aren't issues, just some tweaks) 1- Recent sanding of the greens 2 weeks prior. Greens were still a little sandy but not bad enough to putt. 2-The tee boxes are in great shape minus the divots taken. Some were so damaged you literally were standing in them to tee off. 3- Not knowing the layout and waste area locations etc. and the high fescue rough will devour balls. Keep an eye out on each shot and prepare to lose a couple.
Overall: The course is why this rating is 5 stars. It is just a pristine course and worth a drive from anywhere to play. Great bridges, supreme fairways, great cart paths, golf carts equipped with GPS, pretty fair as far as difficulty for average golfers and there is messaging based on your iron distances what tee to play from on the driving range water station as well as the scorecard suggesting as much. If you shoot over 90 do not even attempt to play from the tips or second set of boxes. Play as far up as you or your buddies can. The 3rd set is for an average handicap of about 10-15. There are 5 total so select accordingly for a fun day. Neat little clubhouse and snack bar, free range balls are included with green fee this day and staff was just super cordial all around. They really go out of their way to insure you have an...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this course and my 1st-time experience there on Fri., 6/28/2024. The course was in wonderful condition: very lush, the greens were quick-paced and true, and this was after a scramble tournament that morning. I was amazed that the greens weren’t bumpy after that.
Another really cool feature/benefit: freight trains regularly roll through the course during your round, and it is the coolest thing! [Especially if you love trains like I do.]
I think this course is definitely the best value in the greater Wichita area, and is surely a challenging trek, with the first nine holes hitting you with jabs until landing a haymaker on the par-5 10th “The Beast,” which at 648 yds from the tips is the longest hole in Kansas! The course then allows you to catch your breath somewhat to the finish (explains the 43-35=78 round today).
What a great experience for the first annual family golf weekend for my sons & I! We will...
Read moreWow!! What an awesome course! A buddy and I met in Wichita for a few days to golf.. After playing several courses that were mediocre at best (Terradyne Country Club (worst of all), Arthur B Sims, Braeburn, Auburn Hills, Tex Consolver and so on… ), we found Sand Creek Station, a course we would have played all +/- 162 holes we played on Wed, Thurs and Friday if we had discovered it sooner…Chris got us out in the morning for 30 bucks with a cart.... Then we went around a 2nd time for 20 bucks.. CHEAP and we finally went around a 3rd time for FREE.. For it being mid-march, the fairways were greening up better than any other, the greens are rolling true and held well, GPS on the carts…I don’t have a bad thing to say about the course or the staff.. Will be our first and only stop when we return to the area next year… Kudos to all at Sand Creek Station you deserve to be ranked the best in Kansas in...
