So I went in to place an order, this is a family owned and operated business and not your typical big box store, and there was a nice woman taking it. I told her I needed some wooden planks approximately 7 1/2 inches wide, as I had purchased some there before. There was a girl, apparently listening and watching us and she piped up, "we only have 3/4 by 5 1/2" boards. I explained that I was for sure I had purchased some there before but she corrected me in a stern voice that the 5 1/2 boards were all they carried. Since this girl was not taking my order and I was speaking to the original order taker, I ignored her because I didn't want to get into an argument with her as she came off as though she was certain about what she was talking about and I could see it would be of no use. In my mind, I was planning to go out and ask the guys working the yard about the boards I needed as I knew they carried them. My wife and I have spent going on $600 over a 3 day period (3 trips to the their store) and I didn't want to make another trip or go somewhere else to find the boards I needed. I went out back to the yard and sure enough found the boards. I asked the yard employee to go inside and assist with placing my order as the woman who was helping me, upon the advice of the young girl who had piped up earlier, couldn't do it. He did. I saw this young girl again who had said they didn't carry those boards and told her that she was mistaken and the boards were there. I did this to help the next guy out. She responded with a negative and childish attitude saying she didn't speak to me earlier because I didn't want to talk to her? I never said I didn't want to talk to her ever. She must have picked up on the fact that I began to ignore her earlier after I found out she didn't know what she was talking about concerning product availability. So I refreshed her mind about the conversation that took place earlier between the three of us. She then was plainly agitated and stormed off with a snarky "have a good day sir!" In retrospect, knowing this business is family owned and operated, I suspect she may be a relative of the owner. I found out later that she was a manager. This really surprised me. I suspect the owner is fond of her and has made her a manager with free reign in his store (she was a young girl). The intention of this review is to provide the public with information to be used in making good decisions where to shop. You might want to consider a big box, corporate store as they have an unbiased control over their employees. The young girl's name with the attitude...
Read moreFirst time here. Not the best experience. Stopped in because I wanted to get in and out fast. Looking for parts but decided to get a new wheel barrow. Picked out one and paid then was told no more new ones. Had to take display, no offer of discount. It has been sitting in weather and full of water and dirt. Handle grips beat up. I know it's going to get used not too big a deal but I firmly believe if you pay full retail for a new item you should get a new item. Anyway, a bolt in the bottom was not seated right on assembly so I asked them to correct it. Had to go next door to their shop. They had some difficulty and finally got it mostly flush. My quick in and out turned into 35 min. Just was very irritated by the time I left. If I hadn't already spent so much time I would have probably got a refund. I had to leave. I will probably end up taking the thing back and going to Atwood's. Just not a great experience. To their credit the staff was friendly though.
Update: thank you for your response. The fact you care enough to respond to reviews and suggestions says a lot. I really appreciate that as it is pretty rare in most businesses today. After looking over the wheel barrow it should work fine. I'm sure I will be...
Read moreThey should change their name to Nicoma Park Lumber AND MORE. Waaaaay more stuff than just lumber there. Tons of other materials, hardware, tools, etc. Look, I could write paragraphs about how great I think this store is and my good experiences, but I'll boil it down: 1. Customer service is clearly their first and number one priority. 2. They know what they sell and they will advise you on what is the best option for your project. 3. The people are genuinely happy to help you and you will be greeted within seconds of walking in the front door. I have no idea what my next project will be, but I do know the supplies will come from Nicoma Park...
