Mojo Up Sports Complex, located in a pleasant neighborhood, boasts a new facility with ample parking, providing a promising start to any sports event. However, my recent experience attending an Adidas-sponsored kids' basketball tournament at this complex was marred by several significant issues.
Firstly, while the facility itself was impressive and seemed well-maintained, the quality of refereeing left much to be desired. Throughout the tournament, we encountered referees who were not only unapproachable but also demonstrated a lack of professionalism and basic communication skills. This deficiency in referee conduct significantly detracted from the overall experience.
One particularly distressing incident occurred during our first game when the referee, instead of calmly addressing the situation, resorted to yelling at the players about the game not starting until someone took charge. When approached for clarification, the referee's response was vague and unhelpful, indicating a lack of clarity in their instructions.
Moreover, we were taken aback by the unexpected requirement for parents or spectators to keep score and manage the game clock. As visitors from Canada, we were unaware of this obligation and voiced our confusion to the referee. However, instead of offering assistance or understanding, the referee reacted with hostility, shouting derogatory remarks about our nationality. This unprofessional behavior is wholly unacceptable and tarnishes the reputation of Mojo Up Sports Complex.
Overall, while Mojo Up Sports Complex offers a promising venue for sports events with its new facilities and convenient location, the disappointing conduct of the referees, coupled with the lack of clarity regarding spectator responsibilities, significantly detracted from the enjoyment of the Adidas-sponsored basketball tournament. Improved referee training and clearer communication regarding event expectations are essential to enhance the overall experience for participants and...
Read moreUpon arrival for a competitive cheerleading event, none of the cheerleaders or families were directed where to go. The only visible seating was on the basketball bleachers, so we sat there in the absence of guidance. However, a staff member repeatedly yelled at us to stay off the wood court, threatening to remove us (adult families and elementary cheerleaders) from the bleachers. Keep in mind, the bleachers are sitting directly on the wood court, and no guidance on where to move was provided by this rude staff member.
Things got worse when the president of the facility, Eric, approached and told us to leave the bleachers because a basketball game was starting. When I asked where we were supposed to go, he admitted he didn’t know, despite being the president of the facility. His only response was that he rents out the space but had no idea where the cheerleading crowd was supposed to sit. He vaguely pointed toward the main entrance and insisted we move.
It’s shocking that the president of a sports complex would lack basic awareness of a major event happening in his own facility. The entire situation was chaotic and poorly managed, leaving us frustrated and disappointed. I will not recommend future cheerleading events at...
Read moreMy son's baseball team played in a 10u baseball tournament this past weekend and it was the worst experience we could have had. From the beginning it was unorganized and disrespectful. They had a 2 hr break in the tournament so softball could practice on the field we were supposed to use and they didn't even offer us another field to warm up on. We had to start our game almost a half hr late bc they were unorganized. We played 3 games on Saturday and not 1 umpire played by consistent rules. The ceiling was too low and if the kids hit it one play they would be out and the next it would be fair. The food was overpriced and old and the service was beyond slow. On top of ALL of this, the director of Finch Creek agreed to let one of teams in the tournament (*cough THE CATZ *cough) CHEAT by playing an 11 yr old in the 10u tournament that played on an 11u team last yr! They allowed this kid to come in and pitch this single game against our team to throw us out of the tournament so their Primetime team could win the tournament. I will NEVER recommend this...
