Really like this course but today was a bit of a disappointment. Started off bad when I made the reservation yesterday (as Golf Trail member) - asked for 1pm-ish tee time - guy said how about 12:52 and I said ok. However, they charged us (3 people) the morning rate as the rates change at 1pm (guy taking the reservation should have mentioned this - I would have gladly waited 8 minutes to save $15 ($39 vs $44). On top of that, the greens have recently been sanded (nobody mentioned this when booking the reservation) and you can still see evidence of them being punched on several greens. Course is in decent shape (riding fairway today) other than the greens. They rolled reasonably fast but with the sand they don't break nearly as much. Plus, lots of ball marks (not repaired) and the marks were pretty significant (we made a lot but at least we fixed ours!). Fringe around the greens were pretty wet so anything short stayed short and sometimes plugged (I plugged one on 4th hole green after sprinklers magically came on when we were hitting our 3rd shots on). Bunkers were varied - some of the fairway bunkers were hard packed - but we were lucky today and didn't hit in many. Decent roll on most fairways so course didn't play as long as after a rain. Pace of play was decent - front nine in about 1:45 and back about 2:15. Surprisingly started backing up around 13th hole (rumor was there was league play this Tuesday afternoon). Anyway, pretty decent round but the 1pm vs 12:52 and the sanded greens stuck in my craw and makes me not want to come back anytime soon (which is a shame as it's one of the nicer courses...
Read morePlayed this course for the first time this past weekend. We started on the back 9, and if I would have written this review after the first 3 holes, I would have ranked this course a 2 or 1. The rough was extremely thick. If you missed the fairway by a few inches you were going to have a hard time finding your ball. I couldn't tell if the course was unkept, or if the rough was purposely grown out for a tournament. When we arrived on our fourth hole we had to wait a second for a tractor to finish mowing. They started on the 18th and worked their way backwards- meaning the rest of the round for us was smooth sailing and you could see the beauty of the course. The par 3 8th is one of the most beautiful holes in the tri-county area that surrounds Wilmington. Everyone needs to play it at least once. Overall the course reminded me of the old echo farms in Wilmington. The holes are challenging and tight, and the greens have a lot of hills and valleys. For me this would be a course I will play once a year. Drive time from Wilmington makes it hard to play it...
Read moreWas part of a group with over 120 players Sunday, May 19, 2018. Course was fine. Personnel were the rudest people Ive ever encountered while preparing to pls a round of golf. The cart staff and starters treated me like a criminal. I understood their policy of no personal alcohol in coolers not allowed. My son went back to the car to bring our drinks that were needed on course. (There was no alcohol). I explained that the cart cooler only contained water and gator aid. One employee yelled at us, called my son down by name and proceeded to shame and embarrass him in front of all ghose golfers. When he searched the cart and saw that we had no alcohol, all he said was: I’m required to search and make sure. I told him I was diabetic and he had no right to prohibit me from taking water and Gatorade on the course. Starter told us there was water only on two holes out there. My recommendation to our tournament directors that we never go there again. We average 120 - 150 golfers in our event and go twice a year. Put that in your...
