Had heard so many good things about Tidewater and was anxious to play. The experience started out great. Pro shop staff was welcoming and super efficient. Nice practice facility. They have two starters, one for each nine and our starter could not have been more friendly and helpful. The trouble started on the first tee. Just as we are about to hit someone drives up and without saying why she was there asks us who we are and starts writing down notes. Turns out she wanted to sell us pictures of us teeing off. When we said no she left, but not before firing up her gas cart right in the backswing of one of our foursome. Geez! The course itself is indeed very nice. Some dramatic and scenic holes for sure and conditions were good considering how much play it gets. The bunkers are superb...don't know how they do that given there are seemingly thousands of them and some are huge. There are a few awkward holes and a few that require a long (for some) forced carry over water on approaches to the green with no real other way around. But it's known as a challenging course so I guess that's fine. The HUGE negative was pace of play. Over 5 hours. No excuse for that. The front nine wasn't to bad, our cart said we were 1 minute behind. But by the end of the round we were over 30 minutes behind. No ranger to be seen. Clearly there must have been one really slow group far ahead of us and everyone backed up behind them. It's astounding to me that as well staffed as this operation is they can't put a ranger out there. We usually spend ~$50 each at the 19th hole but we passed because the round took too long. So that's $200 that could have gone towards paying a ranger! We just purchased a home nearby so we bought the players card ($250) that gives the locals deep discounts on greens fees. Maybe a bad investment. I can't see coming back anytime soon, except maybe to bring out of town guests, or maybe in the winter when there's less play. If we do come back and it's better I will edit or write...

Read moreTook a lesson at Tidewater Golf club with Hugh Royer and having taken many lessons and having many coaches for all types of sports I have to say it's difficult to find a coach that truly loves what he does. He showed true focus and compassion in helping me find my swing again. Not only did his knowledge and passion show up through the lesson but also his past tour experience and professionalism did as well. He knew when to give me a break, make it fun and to have me grind and being a person who is driven to get better it was a pleasant welcome. Hugh was able to spot the smallest things that were missed by 2 previous coaches and within 1 hour we were already working in a possative direction. I was blessed that he was not booked afterwords as I was able to exstend my lesson for for a bit and it lead to a breakthrough that not only got me excited but him as well. Everyone knows golf takes a bit of time and as you can tell if you are in myrtle beach and are thinking about a lesson no matter what handicap I would highly recommend Hugh Royer III. Also want to add he has trackman and is up to date with V1 camera system as well witch was great for me being a player that understands numbers and also likes being shown video analysis. It feels so good finding a great coach and it seems harder and harder these days. I can't thank him enough and will be booking a follow up lesson for myself and my wife shortly. Not to mention it's at one of our favorite golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Tidewater Golf club. Can't thank you...
