My husband and I took The 12-18week puppy training class on Friday nights For four weeks With our puppy. The frustrating part of the classes was that each week there was a different set of instructors. The first three weeks all of the trainers were very nice and very patient.
I would give the first three weeks five stars! We learned so much and it was a great environment to be in. Very kind staff who took the time to answer questions and help solve challenges and over come issues.
However, The fourth and final week the instructor was very abrasive and did not give any helpful advice. She was just full of criticism and blaming the owners for the dog behavior. The slogan of the Ann Arbor dog club is “ We train you to train your dog”. The instructor in the final week of class did not make an effort to train us, she just made it a point to show off her dog training skills and than not answer any questions, and just lecture us about what leashes to buy, And proceeded to imply that our dogs issues are due to our actions as owners and she did not give any solutions on how to fix these actions, she would just take your dog and do the action with your dog as if to point out that you are the problem, not the dog. Which is fine to say that we were there to learn too, but we were not being taught in the last session, just Abrasively criticized.
Again, the first three weeks were great and really taught us a lot. The first three weeks all of the instructors were 5 stars. We (and our puppy) learned a ton, on how to stay consistent and some solutions to the challenges we were having. How ever, the last week really put a sour taste in our mouths. We left upset with the way we were treated and feeling discouraged from continuing to learn...
Read moreWe took our 14 week old puppy here for puppy class and it went pretty well. There's different trainers every week so some are better than others. We didn't learn a lot of new information about training per se, but when they're this young, half of the experience is just about getting them used to new things, people, and other dogs. They do let the pups play off leash for a little, I was told this is the only class they allow it.
My main complaint is that they do not divide the puppies up based on size. We brought our shy 6lb havanese to class.. and let's just say that getting run over by a pitbull and a standard poodle puppy didn't exactly warm her up to other dogs. But I will say she seemed to gain some confidence by the last week, especially because the class thinned out considerably. We started with maybe 8 dogs and the last week only 3 showed up. Overall, I'd recommend it for puppy class, it's really cheap compared to other classes I was finding in...
Read moreHorrible. The "trainers" are condescending and rude. They are all on power trips and will humiliate you in front of the entire class, not to mention the times they use their own dogs as examples in very questionable ways. One trainer shows off by picking her dog up by the skin and shakes her to show how well trained she is not to bite. They're also very partial to THEIR breeds, being that most of them are involved in Showing and Agility. Dogs are supposed to be able to go to the classes up to 24 weeks of age and today they told me they couldn't let my dog in because she was "considerably larger" then the others...and she's only 17 weeks old, no larger then half the dogs there, and it's not at all like she's a bad dog. Power trips. I dreaded going but did it for my dog,...
