North Country Shop & Save — Local services in Northumberland

North country shop and save has a pretty wide selection of products for being a local grocery store in a small town, supplied by Hannaford they have a great selection of things. The butcher is in daily, guaranteed fresh meat is always nice (especially the burger). You can place special orders as well in the deli, meat department and they have fresh made pizza from 11am until a little after 6pm. The deli has a great variety of homemade salads, an updated party platter menu to meet your needs for a special occasion. They even have hot soup during the cold months. there's a little something for everyone! The meat and cheese choices and prices are great. Staff is kind, friendly and always willing to help you find what you need. Fresh bakery items at the ready and placed conveniently near check out. Everything from fresh bread to cookies, scones and turnovers for that morning treat with our cup of coffee we all deserve. The produce department always has great deals on fruit and veg too! They are also an active entity in the community, food drives, project homebound. Ect. As a local I'm incredibly greatful...

Every time I've been here there's been some issue with the food. Either the ceiling is leaking on what I want, the produce and meat goes bad way too soon (I had chicken that was in the fridge less than 24 hours and was bad..expiration date hadnt passed), and I've gotten frozen goods home (popsicles) on more than one occassion and they were obviously melted at some point because half the ice cream was off the sticks they had leaked through the papers onto the box. I just had to throw out an entire box because the kids couldn't pull them away from the cardboard.

The only reason it's 2 versus 1 stars is for the friendly people who work there. Shaws will be getting all of my business...

I come up from Berlin, because I get tired of the stores down here never having what you want or need. I'm still amazed at this little store, the prices may be a bit higher on some things, but I haven't found all that much difference for what I buy.
