Update 6/24. Since Southern Airways took over the Chicago route on time service has improved. I've used the airport twice since United, and their contract partner, pulled out. The facilities are undergoing renovation as of 6/11/24. We'll see if a restaurant finally appears, or if they'll maybe at least up grade vending machine services. United Airlines out of Muskegon is absolutely the worst airline I have flown on...ever...and I fly a lot. Every flight I have flown on this route has been delayed multiple times. My last United MKG ORD flight had 3 gate changes and 2 delays in Chicago. I'd take away the 1 star if I could. Unless you booked your entire flight through UA expect no help on connecting flights, even though they are obligated to rebook for all airlines. First flight this trip was cancelled due to weather and that was understandable. The afternoon flight was delayed two more times (update; another delay makes 3 times) because of electrical and maintance issues causing me to miss a connection in Chicago to Hong Kong. The planes on the MKG ORD run are old and in bad shape. Apparently they have no back up planes. There are no other airline operating at MKG so rebooking isn't an option. I recommend flying out of Grand Rapids or taking the train from Holland MI to Chicago or the commuter from Michigan City. The United Contract of Cartage provides few protections for consumers, but protects the airline completely from responsibility. There's no bathroom in the boarding area, so you have to go back through security just to relieve yourself. There's no restaurant in the airport. The drink vending machine had water or Mountain Dew in it, that's it. I will never fly United again, do not use MKG airport. They're the worst in after sale service. They will be hearing from me at United corporate. Update: because of the 4 delays due to United's, bad service and lack of backup planes on this route, not counting the morning flight cancelation, what should have been a 30 hour trip to Bangkok turned...

My son's mother passed away while he was on active duty serving in Germany. He decided he wanted to visit us in Muskegon so I convinced him to fly into the Muskegon County Airport. He arrived ahead of schedule landing in Muskegon on United (Skywest) flt 5364 Sunday evening. His baggage did not arrive and it took him as long to have a claim established as it took the flight to fly from Chicago to Muskegon. It seems like the people who service the aircraft are the same people who handle the baggage and work the desk to file claims. When we finally were able to leave we put our parking ticket into the machine so we could pay and the machine ate the ticket. So we had to go back into the airport to let security know so we could get the help we needed to get out of the parking lot! I must say that everyone we talked with were pleasant and did help us so 5 stars for great attitudes but so unfortunate that we had to experience...

Bottom line: DON'T DO IT. Do not be seduced by cheap rates from United (their service is a whole 'nother kettle of rotten fish) or tempting ads or the proximity to your home (GRR is 20 min from downtown GR). This airport is so cheesy that there's no bathroom facilities past security. They are not open most of the time, so contacting them is nearly impossible. Our bags have been there for 3 days & they can't get them to us for whatever reason. Furthermore, your flight is highly likely to be cancelled. Think about it: they're right on the Lake & have no experience or technology for dealing with fog,...

Completed my first round trip flight out of Muskegon this past weekend. It really was great. It will be even better when their new scanner is fixed for security (I think this happened while we were gone) and the construction is done. The drywall dust sucks but not their fault. Can’t wait to see it complete and have bathrooms at the gate. Will for sure fly out of there again as long as it isn’t much more expensive than GR. I don’t mind paying a little extra for convenience. Also, Rick, is a fabulous employee and truly loves his job. Do not lose him!!

My family and I love flying in and out of Muskegon on Denver Air. Check in and the boarding process is easy and fast. They even have a snack basket waiting in the terminal as you board the plane. The flight to ORD is about 30 minutes in the air. We always look at flying into MKG when traveling home from Arizona. Can’t wait for the restaurant to open up in the future.
