McKendree Metro Rec Plex — Local services in O'Fallon

The facility is beautiful with reasonably priced memberships and has very accommodating hours and a competent staff. They offer many great programs particularly for the kids, including swim and skating lessons, summer camps, winter camps, trunk or treats, birthday parties, holiday programs, home and garden shows, and more.

We were MOST impressed when Covid hit to see the remote school program the director, Erin, miraculously put together in record time with a qualified team of educators to provide, an urgently needed service for the community that impressively integrated several school districts. The director recognizes a need and finds a way to serve the facility and community… over and beyond expectations.

We appreciate that kind of commitment and dedication, particularly in a time when competent, caring employees are rare.

Place is filthy and had some items stolen out of a locker yesterday that did not latch when i closed it. A lot of the lockers close and appear locked but when you pull on them they just open, even if you place a pad lock. Was missing some items from my bag when i was done working out. Also place is disgusting. Early morning hours and trash is already overflowing everywhere, on the floor, in the stalls etc?? What a joke. Weight room is un clean with rust on everything. Have been a member almost a year and been in at various times and have yet to see a single person ever cleaning. Then walked up to front desk yesterday to ask about it and the young child on his phone did not even look up at me until I had to say excuse me to get him off his phone. What are you even paying them for? Just leave the front desk empty, who cares. Management obviously does not care...

On January 26, I called the Rec Plex asking about open skate for a group of students. The man who answered the phone told me no reservations were necessary and that the open skate was most Saturdays from 7-9pm. So I asked about my specific date and he said it was an open skate day. Again I asked if they needed to note that we were coming because we were a large group... he insisted we should just come on over. We loaded up the bus, drove over an hour, only to find out that there was a hockey tournament on both rinks... and we had a disappointed group of teens. Fortunately we found someplace to take them, but I am so upset that my concern about reservations was brushed off and turned out to be right. Boo...
